Mike Danton - Who to Believe?
Much has been made of this case, not just in the sports world.
For the uninformed: (In a nutshell) Mike Danton is a player of the St. Louis Blues and was recently charged with attempted murder-for-hire of his agent, David Frost. The twist is that Danton has backed his agent the entire time but appears to be brainwashed by the man. Danton has denounced his family and even changed his name (from Mike Jefferson) to distance himself from them. His family blames Frost for corrupting Danton and the entire situation. The question is: Who do you believe? Danton/Frost or Family? ![]()

I'm very confused about it. The article in the local paper didn't make much sense to me the way it was written. What I got out of it was this:
Danton said that some "Canadian hitman" was coming to kill him, so he hired another hitman to kill THAT hitman. It was confusing. I have no idea what to think, it's just bizarre.

All the evidence so far makes me think that Danton and his agent have a messed up relationship. It just doesn't make any sense to me how a successful person could screw up his life this bad this quick.

Yeah, I can't even begin to understand whats going on in this case. It's insane, saying that the guy's brainwashed, but that's not to say I don't believe it. I just mean that the whole concept is so fucked up and Hollywood movie material that is just insane.

It just reeks of the whole Sheldon Kennedy story... I don't know... I hate to see someone with my ideal job just piss it away though. I'm sure therapy is cheaper than a killer for hire.

It really does sound to me like Frost has done a number on Danton, who for whatever reason, is extremely impressionable. My first reaction to the original story was that he had a fight with a gay lover and that lover was going to go to the Blues and spill the beans on their relationship, which in Danton's mind, would end his career. So he then asked his friend if she knew a hitman, which for some odd reason, she did, and that happened to turn out to be an undecover agent. And it looks like I was semi-correct, but I'm not convinced that, with the edition now of Frost being the target, that they had a homosexual relationship going. It sounds like more of a mentally abusive relationship, where Frost has made Danton believe he is completely dependent on him. And just like in so many abusive relationships before, the victim often defends the abuser to the death, even after taking actions against them, like calling the police or, in this case, trying to have them killed.
In some cases, the victim defends the abuser because to admit that there was an abusive relationship occuring, would also force them to admit their weaknesses and inabilities to protect themselves from the abuse. It can almost be more painful for the person to admit their "faults" then to take the abuse. And I'm not saying that a person who is being abused is at fault, just that it is a common mentality to blame themselves in those instances. And that is the analysis that about $600 worth of Social Psych classes will buy ya ![]() |

Danton's father says that Mike isn't even a person anymore. He says he hasn't had his own mind since he was 15, when Frost started coaching his hockey team.
If someone can control anyone's mind so much, it's just not right. Someone needs to do a FULL SCALE investigation on Frost.

I think I saw a plot similar to that on a TV show before. Maybe Law and Order or something like that. Sounds very familiar. |
