I like the idea of one of these shoes stepping in dog shit, though. It should clean it self off, or maybe alert the wearer of what happened. Oh, how about built-in radar, to detect the dog shit before you step in it? I mean, a 20MHz processor? Granted, they didn't say what kind of processor, so the speed doesn't mean anything. Maybe it's an ARM processor, you think? I mean, what functionality would you like in your shoes? How about the ability to walk on water? Automatic floatation units that inflate when you step in water up to your ankles or deeper, perhaps. How about wireless networking? You build a soccer ball which emits, and the shoes get ready to kick it when it gets close! Or maybe you can use the shoes as relay units for lower powered communications devices! Yeah: cell phone relays in your shoes. How the heck do you clean these things, though? Lights are passe, but how about turn signals? Bicycle riders could use them, and use toe switches to get them to signal, or maybe to type with while on the road. Yeah, morse code with your big toes. Why not? And there's no reason to limit it to bicylers, either. No teacher could tell that you're messaging your buds with your toes. How the messages would display, I'm not sure. Maybe use cell phones for the display? Last edited by denim; 05-07-2004 at 11:00 AM.. |

But just think of what it'd be like to be able to surf the web while exercising! Read and respond to e-mail, browse the TFP, run Unreal Tournament! Okay, maybe not that last.
But, then again, maybe you could do motion in a game by actually walking around. Storage would be to an iPod on your waist. Given the P5 glove, you could also shoot opponents or write while running as well. Have the shoes communicate motion to a portable computer via Bluetooth, tie in a P5 glove, a pair of those eyeglass-style LCD displays, some Bluetooth-based stereo headphones, and a network connection to the portable, and you'd have a really kick-ass gaming set up. The only thing remaining would be a way to tell the computer whether you are crouching or standing up straight. Last edited by denim; 05-07-2004 at 01:48 PM.. |

And if they can make socks that last longer before smelling, they can make a lining which does the same, and which can be removed for cleaning, yes? They're also not allowed to be heavy. Power might be derived from compression cycles, I'd think. Batteries would be good for storing that power. They should also be easily replacable, and the whole shoe should be modular, to replace parts when they wore out or broke. Last edited by denim; 05-07-2004 at 03:44 PM.. |
