A child's kiss, and a brutal beating

Baltimore police have arrested two women who, according to charging documents, directed at least a half-dozen children to participate in the near-fatal beating at a party of a 12-year-old Baltimore girl who accepted a kiss from another girl's boyfriend.
Nicole Townes, 12, has been in a coma since Feb. 28, when she was beaten and suffered severe head injuries, police said, after she was kissed on the lips on a dare by a boy at the birthday party, which was held for a 13-year-old at about 7 p.m. in the 5000 block of North Loudoun Avenue.
Monique Baldwin, 35, the mother of the birthday girl and resident of the home where the party took place, and Erin Baldwin, 20, of the 2500 block of West Baltimore Street, are charged with attempted first-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault, among other offenses.

Yeah, the women instruct their children to rectify a perceived wrong through almost fatal misuse of voilence.

We punish the women, and set the example of how to deal with such behaviour, by potentially fatal misuse of violence.

When are we going to grow up?

what kind of skewed sense of honor would cause these women to act this way... and using children to exact revenge over something so trite.... heinous is the only word that comes to mind.

These women should never see any children again. They aren't fit to be around adults, let alone kids.

The kids that participated need to be punished too, there is absolutely no defense for what they did.

I just hope those two are executed in record time.

bermuDa, I'm of the belief that this heinous act had nothing to do with honor. If it were honorable, the girl would have been paired off with ONE other girl, perhaps the girlfriend of the boy that kissed her... If it had anything to do with honor, the older women wouldn't have intervened the way they did. Instead, they would have stopped the dishonorable beating of a helpless child.

No, I'm afraid honor has nothing to do with this incident.

I would take their lives if it were my choice.

tisonlyi... I'm quite interested in what you think should actually be done. obviously, there won't be anything like the pinata idea for justice... but what should be the appropriate form of punishment? and for whom?

I don't think they deserve to be alive.

Just unbelievable... I can't even imagine how anyone would be motivated to use violence in a situation like that.

I don't understand it when more than one person can do this. If it was just one person you could chalk it up to an isolated case of mental disturbance, but how can a sense of decency be so devoid between people in a group?

Like those soldiers who abused those Iraqis, it would be one thing if it was just one soldier being crazy, but the (at least) 2 soldiers and the photographer just all happened to be morally absent. This group mentality scares me, that some people actually band together like animals to do this kind of stuff to people. I wish I could understand it... well, maybe I don't wish to understand.

We're not far removed from our caves and clubs days, as a species.

This is so very sad. I hope that poor girl is ok.

Yes violence is not the way to deal with these people (as much as our instincts would like to do) but they should be punished as harshly as the law allows. Our laws don't allow beatings of course. These mothers should not be allowed to parent these or any other children any longer. Their behavior is sufficient evidence that they are completely incompetent. They should be imprisoned for a very long time.

Head injuries such as they inflicted on this girl will probably haunt her the rest of her life if they don't disable her. Hubby has only a single blow to his head and will be taking medication for it the rest of his life.

This is a clear story of human deprivaty. We are no better than the lowest, filthiest life form when we commit such heinious acts.
