What's wrong with Iraq's new flag?
Where is the green?
You know, the favourite colour of the Majority Shia population? Seems more than a little odd that there's no green there, but the yellow is supposed to represent, 'our friends', the Kurds... *sniffs the air*

I used to draw better stuff then that in MS Paint. Does that mean I can go into business as a flag designer?

its too bad that they are doing away with the old flag - does anyone know if it was the decision of the iraqi people to change it, or what?
i can't see a reason for changing the flag - i'm sure it was around before sadam came into power (not sure, but i could easily be proved wrong). a country's visible identity shouldn't change with changing regimes/leaders. i think i'm angry about this now. |

Why would Iraq want to change its flag? The old one was fine

I thought the old one was fine, it also had "Allah is Great" on it. Go go colonisation.

I thought it used to say "God is great" I could be wrong. Some more information on Iraq's old flag prior to the Gulf war. http://flagspot.net/flags/iq.html If you want to find out your country's flag information http://flagspot.net/flags/

if the new flag has a crescent moon on it, I don't see what the problem is with having "god is great" on the flag (which is one of the most common lines in islam anyways)

Can't say I agree with the need to change it per se but symbolically a new flag for a new beginning.
I am surprised at the lack of green. Especially when the Kurds are on the flag.

The two purple lines supposedly not only represent the Tigres and Euphrates rivers, but also the Shi'ite and majority Sunni muslims, with, as already mentioned, the yellow representing the Kurds.
And there is no difference between "God is great" and "Alllah is great." Supposedly, we worship the same God - although everyone seems to think that everyone else does it incorrectly.

"Allahu Akbar!" or "God is Great" was added to the Iraqi flag fairly recently to try to generate Muslim support for his government.
I personally think that if they want to redesign their flag, that's their business.
