Gardeners and Nature Lovers: Favorite FLOWERS!
After some hiatus from home ownership, it looks like this summer I will have a garden again (joy!)
My favorite flowers in order: Tulips! Such an eligant and perfect shape and what colors! http://www.tulips.com/flowers/Apeldoorn1102.jpg Ah, roses! Queen of all flowers. The sharpness of their thorns matches their beauty... http://armchairgardener.com/subject....hofclass2.jpeg Darling columbines, mountain flower! What a joy to be strolling down a mountain meadow path and unexpectedly come upon you! http://www.canoe.ca/LifewisePlantGar...olumbines1.jpg |

We are lucky to have a yard in which a new flower blooms from March thru October. My favorite, by far, is the Calla Lily; although I enjoy them all.

Out of respect for HalX, I'm not going to upload photos of every flower in my magnificent garden. Every Southern gentleman should have an upscale knowledge of flowers, and the garden my wife and I have created is our pride and joy.
We have four basic areas of enjoyment: 1) Something is blooming every month out of the year. 2) Something fragrant is blooming every season. 3) Butterflies love our garden. 4) Native 19th Century Southern flowers are featured. Many of these areas overlap, obviously, but here is a teeny-tiny smidgeon of a partial list of our very favorites from our yard (leaving out the many multiple varieties we have of several of these). Native azalea Daylily Grancey graybeard Tea olive Rose Peony Iris Spirea Eleagnus Hosta Verbena Viburnum Amaryllis Mock Orange Pussy Willow Forsythia Lorapelatum Hyacinth Dogwood Autumn sage Yoshino Speedwell Dianthus Dahlia Althea Magnolia Crabapple Peach Fig Redbud Lady Banks Rose Oh good grief, I could go on all day. If anybody ever referred to one of our babies as "just plants," my wife would likely hit them. |
