To all the fellow TFP stoners

Happy 420!!!!!

What are you guys gonna do to celebrate?

I'm not one of those people who smokes an ounce on 420, I'll probably just continue with my regular smoking routine, but it'll be more celebratory. Me and my friends are gonna meet up at a secluded park in our area and smoke a bowl or 2 mixed with a possible joint.

Just a warning before we start:

This is not a thread debating the use of pot. Read the title, and read the first post. This is a thread about celebrating an unoffical smoker holiday. This is not the place to bash smokers, make snide remarks about them, or call legality/social implications/etc. into question. Anyone doing so will be edited without warning.

I wish I could join you all, but I'm looking to replace my current job with a new one, and everyone drug tests over here. Oh well, I'll catch the next one. Take a hit for me, TFP'ers.

I never knew there was such a holiday...

Just curious, is there something significant about the number 420?

Likewise.

Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation.

I smoke weed, but the whole 420 thing just seems way too far out there for me. *ooh, it's 420! We gots to smoke it!* Nothing particular to celebrate. 420 is just an excuse to smoke more weed, really.

And what the hell.... smoke 'em if ya got 'em! All my contacts into that world have moved on to bigger and betters so my pipeline to good pot and fresh hot pizza have sort of crumbled. Well...the pizza is pretty accessible but the weed...well... not so much. I think a trip to Hookaville is in order!

4/20 is also Hitler's birthday. Can we celebtrate that "unofficial holiday" immune from criticism and/or argument, too?

Not that I would - I'm just sayin' . . .

Why did 420 come to mean that?

True story? Well, it's at least the most elaborate..: "According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos. The term 420 was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. ``Waldo Steve,'' a member of the group who now owns a business in San Francisco, says the Waldos would salute each other in the school hallway and say ``420 Louis!'' The term was one of many invented by the group, but it was the one that caught on. ``It was just a joke, but it came to mean all kinds of things, like `Do you have any?' or `Do I look stoned?' '' he said. ``Parents and teachers wouldn't know what we were talking about.'' The term took root, and flourished, and spread beyond San Rafael with the assistance of the Grateful Dead and their dedicated cohort of pot-smoking fans. The Waldos decided to assert their claim to the history of the term after decades of watching it spread, mutate and be appropriated by commercial interests. The Waldos contacted Hager, and presented him with evidence of 420's history, primarily a collection of postmarked letters from the early '70s with lots of mention of 420. They also started a Web site, waldo420.com. ``We have proof, we were the first,'' Waldo Steve said. ``I mean, it's not like we wrote a book or invented anything. We just came up with a phrase. But it's kind of an honor that this emanated from San Rafael.''

Known Myths

Police dispatch code for smoking pot is 420.
The number 420 is not police radio code for anything, anywhere. Checks of criminal codes suggest that the origin is neither Californian nor federal. For instance, California Penal Code 420 defines as a misdemeanor the hindrance of use of public lands.

There are approximately 420 active chemicals in marijuana. Actually, there are approximately 315 active chemicals in marijuana. This number goes up and down depending on which plant is used.

April 20th is National Pot Smokers Day.
Well, it is now; but that wasn't the origin.

April 20th is Hitler's birthday. Yes, it is his birthday. But, as 420 started out as a time, not a date, his birthday had nothing to do with it.

The date of the Columbine school shootings.
This happened after the term was already in use.

4:20 is tea time for pot-smokers in Holland.
Tea time in Holland is at 5:30 pm, or is it 2:30 pm? Seems no one is quite sure when the wonderful people of Holland drink their tea.

Yup, the only reason that april 20th or 4/20 is significant is because of the number 4:20 which refers to the time when you light up. Just a coincidence, is all.

There are as many stories of its origin as there are ways to smoke it, but who cares?? It's here, it's what we use, it works! Light one up for me!

Well, since no one actually did any of those things, and it doesn't violate the letter of the rules, i'll consult a mod- hell, a Super Mod- if it violates the spirit of the rules, and if it's still ok.

<---------- Me: Is there a SuperMod in the thread?
<--- Me again: I'm busy locking threads in Politics, what do you want?*
<---------- Me: Is this thread ok?
<--- Me again: Lemme check it...
<---------- Me: ::stares at the wall... drums fingers on the keyboard... ::
<--- Me again: Yes, analog, it is.
<---------- Me: Cool! Thanks!

Well there you have it. analog-tested and SuperMod approved for your TFP enjoyment.

An example of what CAN'T be on here, and not "necessarily accurate", but here for "example" is posting somethign "like":

Quote:
You can get it in nicks, dimes, quarters, half-ounce, O, QP- or more if you place the order ahead of time. Here is a price list:

......Regs Blah: $30- 1/4 ounce
...Crippie Blah: $50- 1/8 ounce.

When you get it, I prefer a nice glass piece. Just roll it up nice, but not too tight- gotta let the air flow through. Light, hold the carb, inhale- let go of the carb, inhale the smoke, hold for as long as you like, but pass to the left as soon as you take it in. Serves 2 or more.
That's a good example, by use of "satire", of what can't be in a thread. The information provided is not incorrect, and is here to be used for your pot education only. Thanks for standing and pointing that out, it's good we all got a lesson in what NOT to post.
