a bullet for bad grades?

one article
Quote:

Lloyd was accused of shoving a gun in the mouth of his then-12-year-old son three years ago to punish him for poor grades.
another article here
Quote:

During this week’s trial, the son again testified how Lloyd, a former five-time Pro Bowler for the Pittsburgh Steelers, put his hand around the youth’s throat in a walk-in closet of the family’s home in the Whitewater Creek subdivision after spanking him for getting bad grades on a report card in 2001.

Lloyd then told his son to open his mouth and proceeded to put the barrel of the handgun in his mouth.

“He was like, ‘You’re wasting your life away and if you want to ruin it, I can end it for you right now,’” the victim said. The incident occurred when he was in the sixth grade, but the victim said he never told his mother about it because he was afraid of what his father might do.

a local radio jock was trying to make the case that this was a acceptable parenting action because he never actually hurt the kid. WTF.

timalkin 04-16-2004 10:34 AM

Well, did his grades improve?

punx1325 04-16-2004 10:35 AM

Parenting hits another new low...

Poloboy 04-16-2004 10:39 AM

Who cares if his grades improved? That's sick. If it's true, Lloyd should serve time and should never be allowed near his son again.

RoboBlaster 04-16-2004 10:51 AM

Oh, he hurt the kid all right, even if it wasn't physically.

yournamehere 04-16-2004 11:14 AM

There's no excuse for acting like a linebacker on steroids.

Oh . . . wait a minute. . . .

djtestudo 04-16-2004 11:52 AM

Oh...he was a Steeler. I understand now...

;) Kidding

Yeah - but don't forget - the life expectancy of an ex-NFL player is 58. Pretty soon, the millions of dollars he inherits will pay for a boatload of therapy . . . and then some.

/yes - realizes that doesn't make it right.

a bullet for bad grades....a guillotine for bad parenting!!!

Bill O'Rights 04-16-2004 01:01 PM

Better hurry, guys, If he goes to prison, this could be worth quite a bit more.

And you gotta admit that, at the very least, he was taking an active intrest in his son's education. Right?

/sarcasm

You cant punish a parent for trying.
Though the parent isnt using the best method.
It should be pretty effective nevertheless. Everytime the kid slacks off he will be thinking for his parents are going to blow his brain out.

Angel 04-16-2004 04:03 PM

This makes me sick and angers me to no end.
He does not deserve to be a parent. No child should have the threat of death put on them in order to acheive higher levels of behavior. These children that are traumatized by actions such as this are the very children I long to work with to help them get through the struggles of growing up in a violent, troubled home. Being raised in a home of violence and anger myself, I empathize with these children. I would give my heart and soul to take that feeling out of every child out there.

WarWagon 04-16-2004 04:42 PM

He may deserve to be a parent, but he sure as hell doesn't deserve to own a firearm.

04-16-2004 04:43 PM

I still consider that abuse- mental abuse. Poor kid- maybe at least he knows never to mess with a gun. That's the only possible benefit from the incident.
Oh, wait- a former football player? Oh, well, that makes it okay, then....shaw, right ::: rolls eyes :::

Better a gun than the Tossed Salad Man

." Quoting a prisoner on initiation into prison drug culture: "'The first thing I do is make a new man toss my salad . . . which is having your asshole eaten out with jelly or syrup, and I prefer syrup' . . . We don't need a death penalty, we just need the Tossed Salad Man!

Some people say the schools are outta control, that we need prayer in schools. We don't need prayer in schools, we need the Tossed Salad Man in school! 'Hey Jimmy, you got a D. You know what you gotta do?' . . . 'No-o-o-o! No-o-o-o-o! I don'wanna toss the salad - I'mma read, I'mma learn to read!'"

OnT: What do you expect from a pro ball player?

Homey_V 04-16-2004 08:24 PM

People like that should be made sterile long before they can have children...
That sort of thing disgusts me beyond belief.

clavus 04-16-2004 08:45 PM

This is soooo wrong! When will parents learn that you use a CROSSBOW for bad grades. Guns are for violating curfew.

 Okay that got a good giggle out of me. That sounded like something my son would say.

Strange Famous 04-18-2004 05:18 AM

The guy should be locked up if it is true, and barred from ever seeing any of his children again.

Bingo. There's no excuse for that, even if the kid suddenly picks up the world's greatest studying habits.

In the words of Chris Rock, we don't need gun control, we need bullet control.
