The only people who go there are probably fundamentalist Christians, so they're ready to abide by the rules. So what's the big deal?

I think it's more the irony of calling themselves Liberty University. As opposed to Old Stickinthemud College.

Entering the space above the ceiling tiles??

I also found it rather amusing that "entering a residence hall of the opposite sex" carries the same punishment as falsifying documents...

My cousin went to Bethel University for awhile. Seems like the rules are very similar.

I don't know why anyone would want to put themselves through that kind of existence, but I would be willing to bet they get pretty good grades.

I don't see what the big deal is. A private college has a right to make rules for their school, no matter how stupid others might see them as (unless those rules are illegal). If people choose to go there, then they should know what rules they are expected to follow.

Intersting, the rules say nothing about homosexuality, and since entering a hall of the same sex is not forbidden, it creates a rather interesting situation.

Interesting the closed mindedness some people who have posted on this thread as such.

For people who claim that people should be tolerant of other's sexuality and choices, one isn't so tolerant of the opposite end of the spectrum.

IMHO those of who have spoken out as such are equal to those BDSM folks claim that people aren't accepting of their lifestyle only to look down on vanilla sex people themselves.

Yeah, those rules suck. No, I couldnt handle them.

But at the same time, its a personal choice to go there. If you are going to do so, you are going to have to accept those rules. And from the looks of it, the people going there wouldnt have any problem with those rules.

They have the catch-all "Immorality", which I am sure covers any and all things that aren't specifically mentioned but discouraged nonetheless.

I also noted the irony of the name, "Liberty University".

Liberty to do what, give up your Liberty by attending?

Heh, well, apparently there's a niche market that is keeping them in business - after all, if there was nobody to attend, they would cease to exist.

You are all making this seem so negative. Think of it in a positive light - isn't it great that all those potentially dangerous bible-thumping fundamentalist nut-jobs are safely locked away in Liberty University, instead of walking the streets denouncing our sinful and decadent lifestyles?

Aah, good old Libery University - keeping society free from religious fanatics... at least until they graduate.

I would like to say two things.

It is a choice for whomever decides to attend that school, and if they believe that the list of rules is acceptable, then I respect their choice.

I would never, ever, ever, ever go there myself. Makes me want to set up a large screen just off-campus facing the residence halls, hook up the most powerful speakers I can find, and play A Clockwork Orange ALL NIGHT LONG.

My cousin went to a Baptist college in Past-the-middle-of-nowhere, Missouri, a couple years ago, and they had similar rules. She voluntarally left after about a year and a half.

The purpose of the rules is probably to discourage people who wouldn't want to follow the rules from attending.

Those who would like such an environment will be heartened by the rules, they can avoid the temptation that would exist at other institutes of higher learning.

And, they get an education.

So, really, places like this are a good thing.

It still doesn't mean I won't make fun of them. =)

Heh, classic source of prankage.

In most institutional buildings, the walls don't pass the ceiling tiles. So, you can slip up above them, and get into adjacent offices, in order to pull off pranks.

This rule was probably added to discourage such pranks, or even pre-exploration to attempt such pranks. =)

Not true... A good friend from college went there. For 2 weeks. He got a basketball scholorship from there, and since his family couldn't afford to put him through school he decided that he should go there and make the best of it. Needless to say he chose to split after two weeks and go to college in his hometown. Of course he's now in debt up to his ears....

what else would you expect from a college in a town in the south called Lynchburg and is run by jerry falwell? I live in salem not too far away from there and most of the people i know that come from there are just ...strange(i'm putting it nicely).
I really have a grudge against Fallwell.
I actually had a friend who had lost a leg recently and was actually publically mocked by Falwell and his cohorts at another table for her misfortune, the kicker was they had been praying the last 4 or so sundays in his church for her.

I think that it was sad that it took so long for that to be pointed out.

It's only ironic depending on your perception of what "liberty" means. It's ironic for me, because my perception of "liberty" isn't contained in those rules, but for others maybe these rules allow them to be themselves without the pressure of fitting in or apologizing for choosing not to drink, have sex, et cetera....

Actually there are quite a few good ones there. I don't like it, but smarmy jokes only hurt my argument in the long run.

Of course you're forgetting the fine you'd pick up for getting pregnant in the first place.

BTW, I think discussions on this board would get real boring real quick if we all just said 'hey, well that might be good for you, but it doesn't work for me'.

that's horrible. i always believed that the fundemental notion of education is based on the respect for knowledge thusly a respect for ideas. and as a platotist, in epistomology at least, the development of ideas require the freedom to experience things such as the opposite sex either physically or at a emotional level. By restricting these freedoms, i think the college is also restricting their students' ability to learn.
