I passed shorthand!!!
Just found out I passed my 100 words per minute shorthand exam last week! I'm chuffed to bits, shorthand is the hardest thing I have EVER had to do. Now I never have to stress about it again! Hooray!!

I'd like to learn stenography, myself. |

nice.... i hope that it the new skill brings you some new $$$

I would think as a journalist, secretary, writer in general it's an invaluable skill, basically anything with alot of writing it's an invaluable thing. And to pass that, should really give you an edge over the competition, congrats

Holy cow!! First time I've seen shorthand, and heard of it, and its soooooo alien to me.

i studied Teeline at Journo school... finished with a speed of 60 (which was the minimum speed required to gradute the course). but 100 - thats AWESOME!! well done. |

WTF... I didn't realize what shorthand was until I looked at that link. It's like a whole different language! Congrats man, that looks difficult as hell to learn!

That's really awesome! Court reporters are pretty steady & well paying jobs, and knowing shorthand is the key to getting those. I congratulate you on passing your test.
However, 100 words a minute seems a little low. There are some people (myself included) who are capable of *typing* up to 110 or 120 words a minute, on QWERTY keyboards. I've heard of people using Dvorak keyboards that do even better. As I'm deaf, I have a stenographer help me out by typing up a lecture for me in real time when I'm there. I am positive that I couldn't type that fast under any circumstances, so the rate has to be closer to 200-250 WPM (which is about the average human conversation rate, although some rappers have been known to push it much higher). Sometimes she types 45 pages of stuff in a single 75-minute lecture. And that's really hard on her hands. I'm not trying to put you down, but I'm guessing you have more practice to do before you could work in jobs that use shorthand. Maybe you could elaborate on what's involved? Thanks! |
So, are we talking about handwriting or typing? I think there is some confusion here.
