The stupidity of some people with guns...

Wow, I couldn't believe this when I saw it... the title says it all

Woman Shot by Gun in Oven

(SAN ANTONIO) -- Talk about a recipe for disaster.

A San Antonio woman was shot in the leg this morning when a handgun that a visitor had stashed in her oven, without telling her, discharged when the oven was turned on.

Police say it all started a couple of weeks ago when two men arrived at the home of Roxanne Perez, 29 in the 300 block of Ware, on the city's south side, and one of them had a .357 handgun with him. Perez told the men she didn't allow handguns in her home, so rather than taking it out to the car, the man stashed it in the oven when she wasn't looking, and din't bother to warn her.

About midnight this morning the woman started heating up some fish sticks in the oven and heated up the gun. It fired off several rounds, and one of them hit the unsuspecting woman in the leg. She's hospitalized in good condition, police say it was an accidental shooting and no charges will be filed.

If no charges are being filed, at least take away this guy's permit... argh.

The story I heard is a gun owner going on vacation wanted to stash his guns and ammo in place no burglar would look. The oven. All well and good until the night after their return from vacation the wife decides to preheat the oven.

When will people learn???
It is for reasons like this that charges should be filed for not handling a gun in a safe manner.

how i feel about this.

1. everyone should always check your oven before turning it on.
(you never know what you might have forgotten was in there.

2. What a dumbass, i guess the gun wasn't that important to the guy, that he forgot it. HE should definately have his permit (I doubt if he even has one, assumming that if you take the course to get a permit, then you at least care about gun safety).

"Right to bear arms" is crap. I think that guns are a bad idea and thing. Too many dumb people out there, that ruin having them for normal "just want to protect my house" folk. Its just too much power and some people dont know how to handle it.

I believe there's only one question to ask when someone applies for a gun permit/licence:

Do you want a gun licence for the purposes of acquiring and/or using a gun?

If the answer is yes, then you aren't the sort of person who should be in charge of a gun.

and yes, i did steal that line, pretty much, from Rowan Atkinson.

I live in AZ, the only permit someone needs for a gun is a concealed weapons permit. Other than that, people only need to be over 21 and to not be a convicted felon. Do most states require registration or permits?

Depends on the state.

In Illinois and NY you need a permit. But I think the majority of states you just need to have a clean background check.

I bet the one who put the gun in the oven was a man.
Men put odd things in the oven regularly. I guess that since a large number of them don't use it very often, no one else must either. The food just magically appears on the table, hot.
Poor woman - at least she will get to sit with her leg up and someome else will have to do the cooking for awhile!

Hmmmm, lots of people out there abusing alcohol and killing innocent people. Are we gonna do away with it? Why hell no, and guess what? As long as there are rapists, crackheads, thieves, and murderers who would break in on my family and kill us over a couple hundred bucks, I WILL take advantage of my Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Do as you wish with yours.

I agree that this is not politics, but I also won't let a statement like that go unchallenged.

This story is almost as sad as this one, almost..

Quote:
Shannon Kramer's plans to fire a rocket toward his girlfriend went awry when the firework ricocheted inside his car and dived between his legs, bursting in a display that burned hair and skin from his feet to his groin, police said.

Kramer, 35, told The Florida Times-Union he lit a fuse on the 6-inch-rocket, but wasn't able to get it out the window of his Ford Mustang before it went off.

Seconds later, after the rocket blasted around inside the car, Kramer was burned and temporarily blinded.

"I thought I was dead," he said. "I couldn't see, I couldn't hear. I went to stand up and I couldn't walk."
