The 8 words you can't say on television...

The 8 words you can't say on television...

Sh*t, Piss, F*ck, C*nt, C*cksucker, Motherf*cker, Tits...and Jesus!

Network Bleeps Janet Jackson For Saying 'J' Word

CBS has finally gotten its shot at bleeping Janet Jackson.

Jackson appeared on David Letterman's show and the censors bleeped her for saying "Jesus" in the singer's first network television appearance since her infamous breast-baring incident at the Super Bowl in February.

She said it in apparent exasperation as Letterman asked her about her in famous "wardrobe malfunction" -- as her co-performer Justin Timberlake described it -- at the conclusion of the duo's halftime number.

I'm constantly amazed at the stupidity of network censors of late. It appears they have equated the word 'Jesus' with the words 'F*ck', 'C*nt', and 'Sh*t'. Nice move.

George Carlin now has to update his routine.

JStrider 03-30-2004 08:38 AM

hahahhahaha.... i think they just wanted an excuse to bleep her...

but man what are all the telavangalists gonna do?:p

Superbelt 03-30-2004 08:47 AM

I've noticed that goddamn also gets bleeped.

It comes out as g** damn.

It's a reflection of the strong christian influence in our supposedly secular government that wants to keep us from "Using the Lords name in vain."

So, it's really 9 words. Add in God.

Destrox 03-30-2004 08:54 AM

It will only get worse, to the point where you will be forced to buy special TV's that intercept custom words inputted by you. (If it doesnt allready exist.)

Actually, that wouldnt be all that bad, I'd leave my filters blank so I can get my TV how *I* want it, not how some TV exec wants it.

That's not a bad idea...at all.

cchris 03-30-2004 09:26 AM

This was on the local talkback AM that I was listening to on the way home from work tonight.

It is so odd in the extreme.

You can blow someone away with violence on TV but for whatever reason if you expose your tits it is bordering on a lifetime ban from future media exposure.

Then again you can stand in front of Letterman and create controversy.(AKA Courtney Love)

But.

You say Jeebus. Was it Jeebus she said?

And then be bleeped.

What a weird world.

No wonder number 96 never got a gig in the States.

platypus 03-30-2004 09:27 AM

And this was after 11:30 at night. Eleven-fuckin-thirty PM!

I can understand sanitizing the dinner/family hour, but this is insane.

All part of the ongoing pussyfication of America.

The_wall 03-30-2004 10:14 AM

your also allowed to imply what word you meant. So the meaning is there, you just can't actually say it. Censorship is going too far.

Halx 03-30-2004 11:26 AM

Hey, I'm all for bleeping out 'Jesus' if you're gonna bleep out everything else.

You also have to put this into context, the way in which she was saying Jesus was not in a mannor I would care to here. She was using as a curse word such as the others listed. G**damn is the same. It isn't used in a positive or even religious mannor. When I was little I used to get my mouth washed out for saying "God" in exsasperation.

Although it is a bit rediculous, you must admit that it is common knowledge using the words Jesus and God in those manners are, in fact, rude and people should use more common sence when on TV.

I used to get told often that saying Jesus Christ and God for no other reason then to use instead of a swear word is in turn a curse.

oldtimer 03-30-2004 12:54 PM

Wow, will there ever be an end to the censorship in America?

That seems logical as if they can produce TVs with V-chips capable of blocking out content based on it's rating then the same could be incorporated into captions and audio.

micah67 03-30-2004 01:13 PM

Pretty soon, we'll *bleep* all *bleep* for each *bleep* they *bleep*. Welcome to *bleep*.

Please *bleep* as you *bleep*.

mingusfingers 03-30-2004 01:20 PM

I guess the way she used it. Meh.

A sad news for all SouthPark fans out there...including me :D

punx1325 03-30-2004 01:24 PM

I thought you could say Shit on TV. Or did South Park just want to fuck with the FCC.

soccerchamp76 03-30-2004 02:26 PM

South Park is on cable....less strict rules on South Park.
For instance on one episode they said "shit" over 200 times. South Park would not be the same without the cursing....because there are a lot of "dirty jews" in there as well, referring to Kyle.
Letterman is on regular that is why.

That would eliminate censoring on the broadcasting end of things and make everyone more responsible for the media input on their own existence, ooooh. They'd probably have issues with people replacing comercials with soothing scenery and Black Sabbath...

it does. I don't remember the name of the product but it monitors the close captioning and removes and keywords.

IMHO you aren't raising kids you are just feeding and housing them.

what's even weirder is that Letterman isn't live it's live on tape. They do their tapings at around 4pm in the afternoon.

iamtheone 03-30-2004 05:15 PM

We don't control our destiny, our goverments do. We live in the United States, someone should remind them exactly what that means.

Hehe, from the Athiest :)
Just kidding. I agree completely. The word doesn't offend me at all, but those words are the most offensive to other people. Most don't care about "fuck" but if you take the Lord's name in vain...

I watched clips of it today and I didn't even noticed anything was bleeped out. It just looked like she muttered something under her breath that was indistinguishable.

I don't know what these censors are thinking. Sign of the times. Or the apocolypse.

analog 03-30-2004 11:44 PM

While I personally can see where some of you are comign from, as I am a religious person, I can also step back and say that this type of thinking is fundamentally flawed. Why? Because not everyone is religious.

[sarcasm]Some people- hold on for this one- don't believe in God, or Jesus, and could give a shit less if you say either word at all. I know, right? Heathens.[/sarcasm]

We don't need to placate the whims of every group that comes forward with a crybaby whine about how TV is poisoning their children.

[rant and slight threadjack]
GUESS FUCKING WHAT... if you teach your children the difference between right and wrong, and raise them properly, then hearing shit, piss, Jesus, God, goddamn, fuck fucker motherfucker Barbara Streisand ass asshole cunt twat snatch beaver bastard bitch son-of-a-bitch... won't matter in the least. No poison will enter the mind of a child taught to properly distinguish what is good and what is bad.

I'm only 23, and so my childhood was not that far back, but I can tell you for a fact that when I was a kid, if I heard a word on TV, I'd go to my mom or dad and ask, "what does shit mean?" Their answer was NOT to throw a fit, call the network, toss holy water on me, coddle me in their collective anti-society vagina, but to simply say, "that's a bad word that people say when they want to be mean." and because I already knew that being mean to people was bad, I simply let it go and never uttered it again until middle school or so, when it became popular to curse.

The whole point is that if these people WERE BEING GOOD PARENTS, they 1. would restrict TV viewing if found necessary, and more importantly, 2. they would give their children the basics- the fundamentals upon which all of lifes decisions are based for the rest of their time on Earth- the difference between right and wrong.

i laughed out loud when i read that..

i agree that bleeping out Jesus is bullshit.. and i wonder how she used it if it was because of the way she used it.. i can imagine it now.. theyre showing a clip of her boob slipping out (censored of course).. then Janet's response is "Jesus!".. uh oh! we'd better not let anyone hear her say that because that will obviously cause an unconditioned response to anyone that was watching this show and everyone will begin to associate the word Jesus with pornography! seriously, what the fuck is with these people :/

skysooner 03-31-2004 06:49 PM

TV censors can bite me.

iamtheone 04-01-2004 04:18 AM

Howard Stern off the air?

What a load of crap.

They win, we loose.

Someday
You gotta find another way
You gotta right your mind and live by what you say

Today
Is just another day
Let’s set your sights and try to find our way

I say fuck authority
Silent majority
Raised by the system
Now it’s time to rise against them
We’re sick of your treason
Sick of your lies
Fuck no, we won’t listen
We’re gonna open your eyes

Frustration
Domination
Feel the rage of a new generation
We’re living
We’re dying
We’re never gonna stop
Stop trying
