Just like in RL, there are no ubiquitous rules in cyber life either...except for death, taxes and LAG...always be careful, you are dealing with a stranger after all...I've made some lifelong friends on the net, and also a few people i'll be happy never to talk to again! Just like in RL...

I've never much been one to go to a chat room and just jump into conversations and meet people. I have visited them a few times but mostly just sit and read. The people I talk to online are either people I know in real life and it is cheaper than lots of phone calls and you can talk to more than one person at a time. Other people I talk to I met through some place like TFP and most of them don't know much about me including any part of my name. I think your mom is going a bit over board but I know that my mom would do the same thing. That is why I am glad I no longer live at home. Anyway, there are sick people out there but most of the people I have met aren't sick at least not psycho sick. Another thing that I don't think some people realize is that you can have a relationship online because you get to know someone from the inside. I don't think some people realize just how serious an online relationship is until later and it has already messed up some of their relationships with the people who aren't online. I know some people who this has happened to. I've seen marriages destroyed because of it. So basically the best information for anyone in any online circumstance no matter what it is, is to be careful. And most peope who use the net are careful. As I am sure you are, at least it sounds like you are.
