The Highway Shootings Task Force named a suspect Monday in the series of sniper attacks peppered across Central Ohio. Those shootings have killed one person and assaulted several other drivers.
In a move early Monday evening, authorities announced a press conference to reveal they are looking for Charles A. McCoy, Jr., 28, as a suspect in the string of shootings.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says that McCoy is a white male, standing 5'7" tall, weighing 185 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.
McCoy drives a 1999 four-door Geo Metro bearing the Ohio license plate number CGV 7387. Anybody spotting the car or knowing McCoy's whereabouts is being urged to call 911 immediately. He should be considered armed and dangerous according to authorities. The public should not attempt to confront or apprehend McCoy.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office held a press conference Monday evening to announce their latest findings, including a photograph of McCoy, the man they suspect of being the gunman.
"That's the reason we're asking for the public's help... gecause we can't tell you where he's at right now. We still think he's local but we're not absolutely sure on that," Franklin County Sheriff's Office Chief Steve Martin said.
"We do not have any warrants for his arrest right now. This is a fluid investigation right now, and it's unfolding as i'm talking to you," Chief Martin said.
Late Monday night, a warrant for the arrest of McCoy, Jr. was issued on a charge of felonious assault. A shooting at 901 Brown Road on December 15th was specified in that warrant. No one was hurt, but two bullets struck a home there in that attack.
