Hung....(the goof from American Idol)
Who needs "American Idol"? William Hung doesn't — he already has a recording contract.
The singer, who became a fan favorite — but not a judges' favorite — during open auditions for the Fox series with his spirited version of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs," has signed a deal with Fuse Music Network and Koch Records. His debut album, tentatively titled "The True Idol," is scheduled for release April 6, it was announced Monday. It will contain "She Bangs," along with another Martin hit, "Shake Your Bon Bon," and a cover of Elton John's "Rocket Man," which Hung sang recently on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." And for those of you hankering for more Hung, the disc will include a 40-minute DVD with behind-the-scenes footage from his studio recording sessions and fan questions and answers. "He may not be the next American Idol, but he is definitely a star and inspiration to everyone who sings in the shower," said Marc Juris, president of Fuse, which will exclusively air his "She Bangs" video. Koch Records general manager Alan Grunblatt was even more effusive: "He is the new Elvis!" Hung, a 21-year-old Hong Kong native and civil engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley, has inspired fan clubs and Web sites that sing his praises. Meanwhile, back at "American Idol," eight of the 12 finalists have been chosen. The remaining four will be announced this week when "wild card" singers — those who didn't get enough votes the first time — come back for a second chance. That makes me fuckin' sick.
The record company is using him to make money. They know everyone will buy his CD either as a gag or to support him. But in all truthfulness most of the money will go to other people and four years from now Hung will be just another handicap person that got taken advantage of. People are fuckin' sick. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to get all the attention he is getting but he doesn't need to be making an album. He doesn't have the mental strength to understand what's goin' on and no one in Hollywood will ever tell him the truth. That's fuckin' wrong... very fuckin' wrong.

Uh, I don't think he's handicapped at all but then again I don't bother to follow him, or American Idol, at all either. Nonetheless....

I think he's great. He has a great attitude and really tries hard to make people happy. And the first time I heard his She Bang's rendition, it had me and my buddys laughing and impersonating him for a week.

The whole thing just makes me upset, but mostly for him. I honestly think he belives that he is really good. If he knew he was awful, and used that in a comedic way, then whatever, people who are into that could buy his album. But he's very sincere, he thinks he's a great singer / performer, and everyone is laughing at how awful he is while he's oblivious.
Very sad, and proves just how pitiful the recording industry is becoming. It gives me more resolve to continue in my pursuit of live performance where this kind of crap never happens.

yeah, i watched the little clip they had on the site, NOT FUNNY AT ALL.
all they are doing with this guy is pretty much releasing a Japanese Karoke CD with him singing all these dumb songs. its just his little accent that makes it entertaining. |

i think this is awesome.
he's getting what he wants, even if the record company is just smelling the $$$. the guy is not handicapped. he's from china, and has been in the states like 3 years studying over at UC-Berkeley if i remember correctly. the guy is smart as shit, knows he sucks by standards, but has said he's okay with it, because "he tried his best". this guy has one of the best attitudes i've ever seen. he loves to sing, knows that people find him entertaining now, and he's getting to record an album. i think he's using the record company as much as their using him. without having been on "idol", he'd never had had this chance.

I hope his album goes platinum. Sure he has no talent but that never stopped half the bands in the top 40

The whole AI show disgusts me. The people who win the show don't deserve record contracts. There are thousands of talented bands slaving away living on the edge of eviction writing original music just trying to get noticed and they make a show where some pretty dickhead with a pretty voice who can sing someone else's songs gets a contract with a major label. The album and tour gets promoted like crazy. In the early rounds they make a mockery of people who suck but don't know that they suck because everyone they know is too afraid to tell them so.
What the hell did they do that makes them deserve it over the bands that play every shitty club gig they can get for shit money? |

They really do need to make something like Amercian Rock Band or something similar. I for one would love to hear some new sounds from bands that have been trying so hard to earn their meal ticket.

Heh, that dude got a contract, demonstrates the moral and musical decay of the industry. He seems like a nice, passionate guy - but he can't sing, therefore he shouldn't have a contract, it is supremely unfair to the hordes of talented musicians out there, not to mention unfair to Hung himself - who is being ridiculed, not rewarded.
