Gifts for Groomsmen

I'm getting married soon and I am stumped for gift ideas for my groomsmen. I would like to give something unique.

Any suggestions?

sherpahigh 03-10-2004 09:07 PM

I'm in the exact same situation. Totally stumped. Well not totally I guess, but I don't want to give the typical gift of a flask, beer mug etc.

Any suggestions would be great.

The groomsmen get a present? I really didn't know that. I should really learn about these wedding traditions, considering I am going to be the best man in August!

A nice bottle of scotch?

The only way I'd be a groomsmen is I was being offered a bottle of scotch.

My oldest brother gave giant engraved mugs of some sort. My other brother gave a nice analog clock with the groomsman's initials engraved on the top (hard to understand unless you saw it).

Just a couple ideas to get the thought process rolling I suppose.

We gave ours silver engraved flasks (well, except my brother, who was only 16--he got an engraved keychain.) Have they ever used them? Probably not, but they seemed to think they were pretty cool.

Yeah, engraved flasks always work. Or shot glasses. Something along those lines.

SabrinaFair 03-11-2004 05:34 AM

Engraved pocketwatches are really unique, and totally chic. They could all wear them in the wedding.

I like the flask idea, too. I bought myself a flask last year, and it's totally my distinctive. I'm "The Girl With the Cool Flask"

I love that store.

Engraved Six D cell Maglites. I gave those at my wedding and the guys really seemed to like them. I gave black but you can get them in Red as well. http://www.maglite.com/product.asp?psc=6DCELL
Or a gift from Despair.com
The last wedding I was in the groom gave each of us one that matched our personality. Great gift we laughed for hours. This was mine, Misfortune Good luck.

My friend gave all of us a couple of things. First, a huge engraved mug that we used at the reception for the cold ones. Then a picture of a stadium with a funny saying on the big board with our names in the saying. That was funny.

I was once in a friend's wedding, and we all got gold plated money clips. Very useful gift - I wish I knew what happened to it.

Redlemon 03-11-2004 07:00 AM

I gave out pocketknives, since I'm known for liking them.

gilada 03-11-2004 08:16 AM

I did money clips engraved with their initals.

if people are travelling to get to the wedding keep in mind that security is tight blah blah blah, and the last thing that people think about is the gift leatherman they got as a groomsman.

sucks to get it taken away at the airport.

I love Despair.com so much. I want to marry it and have 500 babies.

I like the pocket watch idea. Seems unique to me.

You do know you'll be giving a toast, right?

Whatever you pick, it should be something manly. Money clip, flask, pocket knife..... Porn always works, too.

Yeah, I know I am giving a toast. I loked up all my duties and such, but I didn't realize groomsmen get gifts. Ha, I just wonder if the groom knows that.

mrquackers 03-11-2004 11:13 AM

One of the best ones I ever got was jumper cables.

When Yoshi and I got married, I believe I gave leatherbound phot albums with the first page or two filled with shots of me and that particular groomsmen. Not overly manly, but personal - and a break from the engraved mugs.

dy156 03-11-2004 11:49 AM

I've gotten:
engraved flask x2
engraved pocket knife
this wine picnic backpack type thing
binoculars

I still carry the pocket knife, but have never used the others except for the wine opener that was in the backpack type thing because it was nice and made of real wood. While nice pocket knives aren't unique, it was definitely the most used.

Get something personalized if you can. Flasks, money clips, keychains, pocketknives........

LOL, autographed copies of Deep Throat made out to them.

I personally like the maglite and pocket knife idea, though I agree, travelling would likely get a bit tricky.

At a friends wedding, the groomsmen all received matching Oakley sunglasses, which I thought was pretty nice.

j8ear 03-11-2004 12:35 PM

I gave all my groomsmen a survival kit. including, an adventure first aid pack, a compass, a signal mirror, a whistle, a metalic emergency blanket, a water proof match case, and a sweet pair of cuff links, to add a touch of class.

Everyone of them still mentions some wierd use they found for one of the items I gave them.

I went with something most people would eventually someday need, but would never actually buy for themselves.

A good dress-watch, with an engraving.

MY brother gave his groomsmen engraved flasks / lighters depending on the person, and my brother-in-law gave his groomsmen cigar's in a nice case. Just a few examples to help you out.
Good luck finding the right thing, and just go with what feels right for you and your friends, a simple gift with meaning is always better than something flashy.

I gave out the Leatherman Micra and just mailed the gifts after I gave them out at the wedding so they didn't have to worry about post-911 security headaches. The nice thing about a Micra is it's likely they will carry them every day and use them constantly, each time remembering how much fun they had at your wedding. It was a big success for me, best of luck.

I like it.

By the way, at my wedding the engraved Swiss watch went to the Best Man, not the Groomsmen. They just got pissed with me...

I recently got an engraved flask which I really like. I gave my groomsmen a pocketwatch with their initials engraved on the top and "Thank you" & the date of the wedding on the inside (this can get pricey, but I have a relative who got them for me at a discount). I also handed out a book of toasts with a personal message to them on the inside cover. I gave them the books at my bachelor party in hopes that they would feel guilty about fucking with me - it didn't work.

I was the best man at my friends wedding and they gave the groomsmen Silver Flasks (filled with Whiskey :) ) engraved with our name and the date of the wedding on it.

That was awesome.

crony 03-12-2004 06:54 PM

I went the way of giving engraved flasks. They were pretty decent ones with a glass window. My best man and one of my groomsmen made use of them at the wedding :)
