Ireland - Couple of questions

I think the recent post on Australia, asking our global community some basic questions on a non-American country, was an excellent idea. I hope citizens of many different countries follow suit. To that end, I'm posting a few about Ireland.

Please, Irish members do not respond. Let's see how much people actually know about the "auld country"

1) Name the capital of Ireland

2) Approximately, what is the current population of Ireland?

3) Ireland was never conquered by the Romans. True or False?

4) Ireland is part of the Commonwealth. True or False?

5) Ireland fought in World War II. True or False?

6) Ireland fought in World War I. True or False?

7) The last two Presidents of Ireland are notable for what reason?

8) What does the Irish flag (three equal vertical bands of green, white and orange) represent?

9) What does the term "Celtic Tiger" mean or imply?

10) Ireland exports more computer software than the United States. True or False?

11) What caused the Great Famine of 1847-48?

12) How many Irish died due to the Great Famine of 1847-48?

13) How many Irish emigrated due to the Great Famine of 1847-48?

14) What was the Irish population before the Great Famine of 1847-48?

15) Name THREE successful international Irish bands or musicians.

16) Name THREE famous Irish poets, authors or playwrights.

17) Name THREE famous Irish actors, directors or filmmakers.

18) What are "The Troubles"?

19) Ireland is the closest part of Europe to the US. True or False?

20) What is the predominant religion in the Irish Republic?

Some of these should be easy, some of them hard. Try answering them without Googling...

And if you're a citizen of another country, why not post your own quiz? This is both fun and educational!!

Mr Mephisto

PS - A pint of Guinness to the first poster to get all the answers correct. And I'm flying over to the US soon, so you may even be able to take me up on that!

most of the answers have been said, but the one i didn't see was what the celtic tiger is, and if i'm not mistaken it's the boom of the irish economy in the last several years, mainly due to other countries putting plants (e.g. dell) in ireland to use their labor force.

also, no one's said thin lizzy!
