Would You Hire Yourself?


If you have dreams of being your own boss, realize that it takes much more than a marketable idea and some financing - you need a diverse skill set to enable your dream to come to fruition.

A critical self-evaluation will assess whether you have the necessary attributes for e-business success. Take a look at this checklist to get an idea if you have what it takes:

Courage - It takes a certain amount of bravery to leave behind the nine-to-five to try to make it on your own. Coupled with courage is the ability to withstand risk. If the thought of running your own business keeps you awake at night, (and not because you're brainstorming) you might want to pursue something with a higher degree of safety.
Strong work ethic - Don't even think of slacking. Being a Netrepreneur isn't always about freedom - it's often about sacrifice.
Interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills - This trio helps you to get along, keep track and guide your staff, respectively.
Business experience - This includes being able to articulately correspond, being open to systemization, and understanding the basics of entrepreneurialism.
Financial expertise - If you have trouble balancing your own checkbook, one of your first orders of business should be to hire an accountant or bookkeeper.
Technical sensibility - There is an abundance of skilled Web designers and developers to build it for you but you should still have a solid working knowledge of the Internet.
Salesmanship - To efficiently promote yourself, your idea, your company, your products, your experience ... everything.
Multi-tasking skills - You'll be handling a number of responsibilities ... usually all simultaneously.
Passion -- For the business, not the money. Dollar signs shouldn't cloud your judgment.
Patience - The rewards of hard work may take some time to pay off. Temper your need for instant gratification.
Perseverance - This is connected to knowing when to walk away. You can try and try and try but you have to know when the efforts are fruitless.
Vision - Having the ability to see opportunities that differ from your pre-conceptions.
Creativity - In addition to aesthetics, creativity is needed for effective problem solving.
Luck - Being at the right Web address at the right time can play a part in how successful you are.
If you find that you are deficient in some of the more critical components of business, you have a number of options:

Find methods to develop your strengths to overcome your weaknesses.
Hire a professional in that particular area.
Enlist a partner that can compensate for the skills you lack.
Ask for help from other entrepreneurs.
When embarking on your e-commerce enterprise, check your ego at the splash page. Being a start-up Netrepreneur often involves grunt work like going to the post office, packing orders and making deliveries.

Yes I would hire myself. In a second. I know that I can do anything in a work situation. Just let me know what my responsibilities are, and when you want me to start, and I'll go learn the job in the meantime.

I have been successfully self-employed for quite some time so I guess I'd hire my self again - In fact I'd love to do just that - I wish there were three more of me and we all worked shifts - Bet I'd be even more successful than I am now with my current employees.

Yes. I have worked a variety of jobs (construction, auto mechanic, generator mechanic, and the finally settled down as a developer/analyst) and have excelled at all of them.

Its not something I try to do(doing good work)....its just what I do naturally.....so I think I am a damn good employee.

I'd disagree with myself too much. I'm too opinionated to work under someone as opinionated as myself. I work better if I'm the only one of me in the room.

If I'm the boss, why would I hire someone overqualified to work under me? So no, I'd thank myself for applying, and tell me that I'm too qualified. I'd then get mad and sue me.

Practically speaking, I am my own boss. I'm always a little pissed that I'm not working harder. I'd probably hire me, but eventually fire myself.

Yes I'd hire myself. I have my own home business. Going pretty well though I'm loosing a client because of the ending school year. I'm searching for a new one but have a couple potential ones already. I'm self motivated and hard working. I just need my own accountant because I can't do math for anything in the world.
