How cynical are you?
Test yourself, post the results.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3492709.stm Discuss: Is it really so bad to be cynical? I got 'Top Grade Cynic'. Apparently I view every piece of news with 'sneering contempt'. It sounds about right, but I don't see why that's a bad thing. Cynics unite! edit: forgot link, like a complete dick. Last edited by flamingdog; 02-16-2004 at 02:56 PM.. |

I got my cynicysim the hard way, I earned it.
Used car salesmen, politicians, bosses. I think that a certain amount of being cynical is a good thing. When you are young and optimistic it's hard to do but the longer you live the more you understand of how the world actually works. I'm not cynical about everything nor am I cynical all the time. I AM cynical of all infomercials, amazing car deals, political promises, dogs I don't know, women that flirt too much, Microsoft, the list goes on for a while. By the way, I don't seem to find a link for the test. Oh, and I'm cynical of on line tests.

I'd rank myself pretty high on the cynical scale. Maybe it's because I seemed to have a knack for getting screwed by anyone and everyone in Jr High and High School. Now I just hate everyone
Henry Louis Menken said it right when he said "The cynics are right nine times out of ten."

Am I missing something? We are to test ourselves with no test link?
After viewing so much contemptuous behavior from people in this world you'd think I'd be cynical but I'm not stooping to that level. Others motives may be negative but I prefer to keep mine positive; less stress, anxiety and worry

I was always young and cynical. Then I went on to be older and cynical. I'm looking forward to being old and cynical. Probably shortens my life significantly, but I'll regret that when I finally address Jesus on my death bed.

It says I'm not very cynical. I didn't think so. It all depends on the situation. When it has to do with kids and their potential I'm not cynical - I know they have LOADS of potential. When it's entertainment industry - I just plain have no interest. When it has to do with politics - I don't see any hope.

Yeah, I don't believe in blowing your kids' hopes and dreams to shit just for a cheap laugh. I don't believe a word politicians say about anything, period. As far as the pop idol question goes, I just think it's a great shame that such mediocre rubbish is swamping the greatness out of the market, at our expense.

Heh...me:
"You're a top grade cynic - in fact, you've turned cynicism into an art form. You greet almost every peice of news with sneering contempt. Loosen up a bit." Mostly true, in some/most situations, but that might be thanks to the fact that I've been dealt a lot of shit in my life. I sometimes think that being either realistic or even pessimistic can lead to less disappointment in the end. But I suppose that that might be my cynicism talking again...so I think I'll just shut up...

Aw - "you're really only a second-rate cynic. Actually, you aren't cynical as much as world weary, and sometimes you have a point. One thing though - laughing at children isn't nice."
Is there much worse than being a second-rate cynic?

I'm a top grade cynic, apparently.
Yeah, whatever. THEY are just trying to shame me into believing them. (arf)

Also "a sweetie," and "barely capable of a cynical thought." It depends on the situation, though.

Top Grade Cynic, although I found the test didn't offer enough options for it to accurately measure my level of cynicism. [I was often forced to choose answers that weren't the best, due to a lack of options]
