I was in a movie today!

Hey boys and girls-
I was in a movie today!

OK, a student film by my oldest friend in the whole world. (oldest as in I've known him for 13 years, he's not old) But anyway, we made a short film that featured me exclusively...no script, really, no real narrative, just me talking to the camera. It's supposed to have a Mardi Gras theme, since it's debuting at a Fat Tuesday party following a Mardi Gras parade. But yeah...I'll post a link when he puts it online, which should be sometime next week.

He took shots of me outside, then some shots of me against a black cloth with blue and red lights on me, with my hair spread out all around me. I can't wait to see the final result.

Anyone else ever appear on film? So much fun. I recommend you try it sometime. Although...wow, is that what I really sound like? Gawd, I sound like a hick. But yeah...just felt like telling about my movie experience.

For my group discussion class I was in a video. The video was for the group project. It was pure class, we got a 96% on our project overall, mainly due to the video.

Lebell 02-15-2004 12:38 AM

Oh, and I was going to congratulate you and ask you what you went to see :D

Never been in a "movie", but I've been on TV about 6 times, quoted in 2 major newspapers and am on a couple of CD's (the kind you can buy in record stores :) )

No, I'm not famous by a long shot

mystmarimatt 02-15-2004 12:52 AM

Gus Van Sant lives in Portland, and he watched last years' oscars at my friend's house.

And we all know the kid who was the lead in "Elephant."

Prince 02-15-2004 01:38 AM

The only movies I've been in are home movies with the wife, and those aren't seeing the light of day...

ratbastid 02-15-2004 05:45 AM

I was in a student film a while back. Never did see the finished product, though I'd like to.

Charlatan 02-15-2004 06:50 AM

I've been in a few films but am most proud of my screenplay that was produced a few years ago... That and my voice over work (it pays well and bought me a lot of beer in Univeristy)...

Kaos 02-15-2004 08:47 AM

Years ago, in public school I was in a bunch of school theatre plays that were videotaped. I guess that would count.

FleaCircus 02-15-2004 10:22 AM

I've been on television quite a bit, but most notably Freaks and Geeks. Also, feature wise, I was in Orange County.

P.S.: Charlatan, would we have heard of your screenplay?

KungFuGuy 02-15-2004 11:32 AM

umm...

i made a music video for a college class (so i was writer / director/everybody else haha)

i just finished my first script that I intend on turning into a short film (20 minutes long or so) just for fun.

And i'm going to school with a degree in communications and I want to get into the movie/tv business. Anyone already there have some hints?

ladyadmin 02-15-2004 11:49 AM

I was in a safety video, on TV numerous times, on the radio and in the newspaper when I was about 6 yrs old. I've also filmed some 'personal' home videos.

One thing I think I'd really like to do is be an extra in a major film. Although being the star would be equally rewarding.

amonkie 02-15-2004 01:40 PM

One of my friends was an extra in the Spiderman movie, lucky guy!

Man, I loved that show! What did you do on that show?

It's been cancelled for a long time now, but I'm still pissed off that it's not on.

Halx 02-15-2004 02:27 PM

I got to spank a girl on video... haw haw!

I used to walk around the house with my parents camcorder... narrating my journey from room to room.. it was pretty lame.

How soon you forget about your cereal eating video. :)

I was an extra in a film called 'Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter'... I was a patron at a bar where a blues musician named 'Blind Willie Leper' was playing. Jesus gets invited onstage to sing and play drums, when he realizes that most of the crowd are vampires. It was pretty cool, free beer!

happymaan 02-15-2004 04:32 PM

In T3 when Arnold picks up John Connor by the neck and holds him up, those are my feet dangleing.

I started as one of the extras, but I had a speaking part by the end of the show. The one scene I spoke in was cut from the episode, though, so you don't get to hear me. But I was "Stroker," the guy with the long hair that was in all of the school scenes.

Edit:
P.S.: It's being released on DVD April 6.

Awesome!

I remember right after it got cancelled and NBC hadn't shown the rest of the episodes, a bunch of us were asking if they would release the series in a DVD set.

Great News indeed, although it still doesn't make up for cancelling it. The characters were really evolving and I wanted to see how the story was going to go when Linda Cardellini's character came back from following the Grateful Dead.

jwoody 02-16-2004 04:56 AM

I was in a music video about ten years ago. "Kickin' it to pieces" by The Ashbrooke Allstars....

...what? you've never heard of it? (you can hear a clip of it here if you really want to)

...unfortunately, "I'm too sexy" by Right Said Fred was released in that week by the same record company and the video was shelved so the world didn't get to see me and my skateboarding talent.

Sadly, no. It sits on the shelf never to be released... Such is the way of producers that can't managed their bloody finances...

The upside was that I got paid even if the lab didn't...

Better than nothing, I suppose.

KungFuGuy 02-17-2004 07:09 PM

my teachers have said that a lot of movies didn't even make it past the editing stage due to finance problems.

this isn't "as" bad anymore with digital technology, but back then a lot of movies never made it past the cutting room.

thats not to say that its inexpensive now though, especially if your editing involves lots of special effects (if its low budget this shouldnt be so much of a consideration though)

Iliftrocks 02-18-2004 08:18 AM

I was en extra in Silver Bullet (Stephen King) which was shot in and around beautiful Burgaw, NC, sure Wilmington too.

I got the DVD recently and if you try real hard you'll see my 17 year old self standing around a pool table in a bar scene.

Good times

I was only an extra in one other movie, a peice of schlock made for tv thing with Rick Schroeder (sp?) called Too Young The Hero. I didn't get any screen time, but I did get to spend the week in the Pender County Correctional facility with some wonderful convicts and actors.....

Lunchbox7 02-18-2004 08:27 AM

My best mate is a film maker. He has a film called 'Fantasy Men' in this years Filmbreaks. Filmbreaks is one of the biggest film festivals in Australia. Im the central character. I find it funny that my ugly mug is up on the big screen in most of Australia's capital cities.

gilada 02-18-2004 08:56 AM

I was in a movie once, just a cut away scene, in A Cool Dry Place. My wife and my backside start off a little cut away that pans up a building in Dallas. I'm the bald guy in the suit. It's like an hour in the flick, when Vince Vaughn goes to Dallas.

Hey, it was like 50 bucks, and free food.

I really liked Orange County, did you have a part, or were you an extra, did you get to meet Jack Black?
I am truly amazed of the talent represented at TFP!
I have never been in a movie, the closest I have come to fame is "Guest DJ" on AFN (American Forces Network, Military Overseas Raido...) for 2 hours, got to pick the music and talk and crap...

I was the Stoner. It was a speaking part; I'm the one sitting on the ground talking to the blond kid who got into Stanford in place of Colin Hanks.

I haven't met Jack Black, but most of the actors playing the high-school kids were there when I worked.

The film is finished! This is me, SabrinaFair, in "Dirty and Benign", a film by Nick Warner. Enjoy! :-)

Interesting. I like the look and the use of black and white. It was nice to see your work.
