Calling all Buckeyes and Ohio-ese people.
I have no idea what someone from Ohio is called.
I am currently a Michigander, thus the "surrounded by great lakes" thing, and.... I FINALLY GOT A JOB THAT I WENT TO COLLEGE FOR!!!!!!!!! One year and 3 months after graduation, with an AAS that makes me a Microcomputer Technician, I get to be (drumroll...) a COMPUTER TECHNICIAN. I currently work for Target at the MI DC, and I'm going to a new Distribution Center in West Jefferson OHIO. Well, my WIFE and I are going to move there, and that's where I need help. We know that West Jefferson is a teeny, tiny little place west of Columbus. We aren't living there. The question is, where to live? Does anyone know that area well enought to help us figure out where we should look at apartments? Basically I know dick about Ohio, but both sides of my wife's family are from there, as is she. They moved to MI well over a decade ago, so the info they have is a little out of date. Any help, links, advice, a free house (he, he, he!), WHATEVER someone can tell me about the area would be great. General advice on moving six hours away from all your friends and family would be great to. That's the scarey part. The furthest I've lived from my parents is 20 miles. Her, 50 miles. We're 24/25 no kids, so we don't need to know too much about schools and such. THANKS loads! PS, my start date there is March 15th. We will likely move the week of March 8th. Sand is falling quickly through the hourglass.

I lived and still consider my self a ohioian... ohoimite... nevermind.
Just keep your sence of humor, and let the little things slide, I have moved all over this great big earth of ours, and the one thing to remember is: "Try to remember which box you packed your socks in." What's round on the sides and high in the middle? Ohio!

I live in Toledo, so I can't really help you out. I know going toward lancaster there's some really beautiful scenery. I love going to Hocking Hills to go hicking, since Toledo is so fucking flat, and that area has "hills". The state park system in gerneral is really good.

According to http://www.city-data.com/city/West-Jefferson-Ohio.html the closest cities are Lake Darby, Lincoln Village, Hilliard, Plain City, Harrisburg, London, Orient, and Urbancrest.
I was going to suggest Lancaster, but apparently it's on the other side of Columbus...46 miles would probably be a bit too much of a commute.

Depends on your income. Using Cinnamon's list.......
Plain City, my dad's company was there, nice area but expensive and not worth what you pay. Hilliard and London, nice middle class some very affordable rents and low crime. All those cities are decent as far as I know (Urbancrest tho I have heard some bad things about, but it depends on taste). You'll be relatively close to Cols. no matter where you choose so you will have access to a big city. 2 tips 1. never admit especially in Cols. that you are from Michigan especially during OSU-Mich week....lol 2. Columbus and that whole area is pretty much a Yuppie town, so things can be expensive, the 2 big malls (Easton and Polaris) are great but pander for the upper middle class and those who don't mind using credit cards. Welcome to Ohio, I've lived in other US areas, Phx, Las Vegas, Norfolk, San Diego, but I have found Ohio has the best of everything. Although I do love Phx. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just love people who use the excuse "I use/do this because I LOVE the feeling/joy/happiness it brings me" and expect you to be ok with that as you watch them destroy their life blindly following. My response is, "I like to put forks in an eletrical socket, just LOVE that feeling, can't ever get enough of it, so will you let me put this copper fork in that electric socket?" |
