Good for her for fighting it. I hate having the church in my bedroom (particularly since some of the horniest girls I grew up with were hardcore Southern Baptists).

One thing to note:

Don't be upset at the police for enforcing a law, be upset at the legislature for making the law.

The police should not make a moralistic decision to enforce or not to enforce a law. If there is a complaint, they must enforce the law (they can do so with a lower priority than something else, but that's another argument).

I'm personally a fan of mandatory sunset laws on all legislation, perhaps with a third house in the legislature who's sole job is to review sunset legislation.

I have wondered about a slightly different solution. How about if we have a maximum number of laws (or activities that are illegall)? Then, anytime you want to make something else illegal, you have to decide what other activity you are going to allow.

I know this is not remotely practical, or even wise. I first thought of it when my homeowners' association wanted to pass 36 new rules at one time. I wanted to propose that they have to eliminate a rule for every one they wanted to add. Unfortunately I could not make the meeting, but I did type a letter explaining why most of the proposals were moronic or redundant or both.
