The self styled 'progressive electronic-trip rock' band Eisbecher have bundled two blank CD-Rs with each copy of their new album.

Whilst much of the record industry wants to turn back the clock so that they are the only people who can make any kind of recordings Eisbech have made a point of supporting the consumers existing legal right to fair use copies.

We are giving them the chance to make 2 legal copies for private use with 'official blanks'. It can't always be that the end users have to take the blame for something that international corporations have arranged with their artist-burning methods." Eisbrecher's record label ZYX Music supports this action and will deliver the first 5000 albums of the group with 2 blanks each."

It's nice to see a band sticking up for consumer rights; it's just unfortunate that more mainstream bands aren't as concerned with the people who listen to their music. Acts like this will surely go unnoticed by the masses and the record industry, but every little bit counts.

That is two awesome!!!!! All bands should do that!!!!!!

Thanks for the link, those guys kick ass. Haven't listened to the music yet but Front 242 is a good band.

Good move for the band, people who buy their album make 2 copies for their friends and so their music spreads.

Whether it strikes a blow for consumer rights... it probably doesn't considering they are a small obscure band on an independent label, but it's definately a worthwhile idea imo, if a "mainstream" band picks it up it could be quiet significant.

I don't personally know any musicians who are in it for the money. Everyone I know that plays in a band, or composes or whatever is doing it for the love of music. Granted, they're probably not rich enough, or well known enough to grumble that their music is being "stolen"....

I have a lot of respect for this band- I may buy their cd just because they're promoting a Good Thing (tm).

The thread on Fark about this mentioned something about fans overjoyed to get two copies of their "Best Of CD". I don't know enough about this band (really anything at all) to know if this is insightful, or merely clever.
