Warning: Party Animals Stay Away From Mardi Gras
San Luis Obispo Wants Celebrations Toned Down
LOS ANGELES -- Rowdiness won't be tolerated at this month's Mardi Gras celebration in San Luis Obispo, promoted as the largest such party west of the Mississippi. "I'd like to see Mardi Gras return to what it was about six years ago, and definitely what it was 10 years ago. It was fantastic," said Dick Pimentel, who manages the Web site for Mardi Gras of San Luis Obispo. Pimentel recalled earlier years when the city festival was largely a colorful parade to Mission Plaza with participants tossing beads to small crowds on the way. In recent years, it's become known for unruly guests and vandalism, assaults and hundreds of arrests. The 26th annual event, Feb. 20-22, will see a large law enforcement presence. Twice the number of police officers as last year will be on patrol. More than 20 agencies will aid in law enforcement. Police also plan to release the names of those arrested to colleges statewide. Mardi Gras security could cost the police department $50,000 in overtime and other fees, including payment for special details coming from outside the area, authorities said. There were an estimated 35,000 people on hand for last year's parade and police arrested 139 people, mostly drinking-related arrests. organised choas |
It's a party course people will be drunk. But then this organized chaos well that's another thing we can't be having that! :D

halloween in Santa Barbara I've heard about but not SLO for Mardi Gras. |
i just don't understsand why any city would have a Mardi Gras festival, party or event period except for New Orleans, they did and Mardi gras event in Seattle every year, until a few years ago when there was a riot and someone got beat to death during the mayhem.

It's a shame nowadays that major events like this can't happen without some yahoos wreaking havoc. Never heard of SLO Mardi Gras though.....
|
It's a shame it always turns out bad, too. It could be a great time with everyone just drinking and NOT getting in fights and stuff.
|
speakin of, that's where i'm headed ( new orleans) on Sunday for 2 weeks. GO ME!!...luckily for everyone, i won't break windows and burn cars...i'm just get stupid drunk and nekkid and collect as many beads as i can!
|
Why the fuck would you go somewhere other than New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras?
|
SLO is a college town. It's right next to Pismo Beach... it's a prime spot for a big party
