Boobs more important than Terrorist Ricin
Are we so captivated by Janet Jackson's breast being exposed to millions of viewers but totally neglect the fact that there was ricin found in the offices of the US Senators.
I'm a bit ashamed that I have not had perspective, but at the same time those that read my journal know I've had a day. Still I realized it earlier, and still no one has posted about it. I did a search on ricin and nothing came up. I'm not going to bother to post a link. If you are interested in yet another terrorist act, you'll find it at the same places of the usual suspects, but our freedoms are in jeopardy again, and we sit and debate the merits of seeing some has beens nipple on tv. i'm disgusted with myself. thanks for listening.

Introduction
The seeds from the castor bean plant, Ricinus communis, are poisonous to people, animals and insects. One of the main toxic proteins is "ricin", named by Stillmark in 1888 when he tested the beans' extract on red blood cells and saw them agglutinate. Now we know that the agglutination was due to another toxin that was also present, called RCA (Ricinus communis agglutinin). Ricin is a potent cytotoxin but a weak hemagglutinin, whereas RCA is a weak cytotoxin and a powerful hemagglutinin. Poisoning by ingestion of the castor bean is due to ricin, not RCA, because RCA does not penetrate the intestinal wall, and does not affect red blood cells unless given intravenously. If RCA is injected into the blood, it will cause the red blood cells to agglutinate and burst by hemolysis. Perhaps just one milligram of ricin can kill an adult. The symptoms of human poisoning begin within a few hours of ingestion. The symptoms are: abdominal pain vomiting diarrhea, sometimes bloody. Within several days there is: severe dehydration, a decrease in urine, and a decrease in blood pressure. If death has not occurred in 3-5 days, the victim usually recovers. It is advisable to keep children away from the castor bean plant or necklaces made with its seeds. In fact donít even have them in or around a house with small children. If they ingest the leaves or swallow the seeds, they may get poisoned. The highly toxic seeds beaded into necklaces, cause skin irritation at the contact point. If the seed is swallowed without chewing, and there is no damage to the seed coat, it will most likely pass harmlessly through the digestive tract. However, if it is chewed or broken and then swallowed, the ricin toxin will be absorbed by the intestines. It is said that just one seed can kill a child. Children are more sensitive than adults to fluid loss due to vomiting and diarrhea, and can quickly become severely dehydrated and die. Castor bean plants in a garden should not be allowed to flower and seed.link |

Sex sells...
A man was killed in Boston during some rioting after the Super Bowl. That's just been a blip on the radar.

Well, I multitask - so I'm quite aware of this event as well.
It's not something I ever forget - the state of our security. I won't continue typing thoughts here in this thread for too long as I'm no longer terribly interested in how this sort of topic eventually devolves into political debate. I did my part - today again in fact - to participate as an active contributing citizen in what I believe will continue to make us more secure in our homeland.

I think its so stupid to get all hyped up about a breast being shown. Sure its a family show and its not appropriate. But I dont see anyone from any school board where I live trying to get the National Geographic Magazines out of the schools. I know its not the same thing but its still in a public school its still showing breasts and then some.
I live in Ontario Canada and back in 1994-1995 they passed the law that woman are now allowed to walk around topless. So whats the difference if kids see it on tv or when they are on the beach.

Funny... Around here the boob was mentioned but it was superceded by a report of a guy who got arrested because he hit a cop.
But people will be people... gossip is what it's all about. Now if ricin had been found on the pants of some guy and the mouth of a woman, then we would talk about the terrorist act! Media Hype: I hate it!

It was pretty funny to watch the replay, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and to hear all those comments about how "horrible and digusting and shameful" it was and "Oh, here's the clip again, this time in slow motion!" WTF?
It's a breast, okay, big deal. Kids, that's what a woman's breast looks like. IT'S NO BIG DEAL! Women have them and that's that. As for the Ricin, they didn't bother telling anyone about the letter back in November now did they? Can't scare the American people, NOT before an election! So what if all our higher quality jobs are going overseas? No big deal, just buy something. Ugh, I'm moving to Canada if Bushbaby gets a second term. Or maybe Australia.

It was a boob.
Now in alot of places you can just head down to the park or beach and see all sorts and types and not an eye is batted. However the US isn't one of the places, I am not for a second bashing anyone or anything about the US not in the least. A senator who has been the intended vict. of mailed death prior to this is passed over, a person who is killed by a pickup truck during a celabration almost ignored. This is just an example of the paradox of what is thought to be news worthy or important. The news has moved away from events that shape and mold the world and has firmly planted it self into the entertainment world. Is it right ? no. Is it what people will run to the t.v. to watch ? yes. |
