Engineering geek names son version 2.0

Sunday, February 1, 2004 Posted: 5:15 PM EST (2215 GMT)
HOLLAND, Michigan (AP) -- Tacking Jr. or II onto a boy's name is too common, a new father decided, so the self-described engineering geek took a software approach to naming his newborn son.

Jon Blake Cusack talked his wife, Jamie, into naming their son Jon Blake Cusack 2.0.

Version 2.0 was born Tuesday at Holland Community Hospital, and the proud parents took him home Friday.

"I wanted to find something different to name him besides Jon Blake," Cusack, who is self-employed with Westshore Design and Cusack Music, told The Holland Sentinel.

He said he had the idea for a few months, and spent the better part of that time persuading his wife to go along.

Jamie Cusack said she didn't concede until the week before the birth. She said she had "picked out the theme of the baby's room and done other things. I decided to let Jon have this."

After 2.0's birth, the Cusacks sent out an electronic birth announcement.

"I wrote in the birth announcement e-mail stuff, like there's a lot of features from version 1.0 with additional features from Jamie," Jon Cusack said.
/edit - removed the baby picture

Made me laugh.

I think he's going to have a tough time through grade school

That's like advertising for AOL. It comes with new upgrades and software too. I bet this kid gets his ass beat at least 10 times by High school.

Sleepyjack 02-01-2004 11:21 PM

few, i thought his name was just going to be Version 2.0 for a minute

hmm it's not that bad, but it's fairly unimagitive and also a tad narcistic to name your son the same as you? (that goes for jr etc as well) Just my opinion though :D

onodrim 02-01-2004 11:44 PM

Lol, thats great. Very entertaining story, but I do think the poor kid will get some serious teasing over it.

indiretto 02-01-2004 11:51 PM

Poor kid, you know he's going to change his name.

Confederate 02-02-2004 01:46 AM

hmmm now why didn't I think of that

dragon2fire 02-02-2004 01:58 AM

what a nerd

no not geek that anit worthy of geek

aarchaon 02-02-2004 03:56 AM

Good god, why, fucking why? Why is it that people are naming their offspring truly horrendous names? Do they not wish them to fit in?

nukeu666 02-02-2004 04:42 AM

poor kid
atleast he's not gonna have as hard a time as the woman who wanted to call her kid osama bin laden :D

Nefir 02-02-2004 05:39 AM

That was cruel and inconsiderate. Mr.Cusack has given to his son a lifetime of bureaucratic problems ("I'm sorry, sir, but we cannot deposit your check.. there is no account under that name, and I cannot enter numbers in the name field"), and schooltime ridicule.

I mean, its great to be original and all, but this is just silly...

Phaenx 02-02-2004 07:13 AM

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneerd.

I'd kick my dads ass and take his lunch money if he did that to me.

feelgood 02-02-2004 07:42 AM

Does that mean he'll be upgaded as he grows up? :D

filtherton 02-02-2004 08:18 AM

2.0 will be obsolete as soon as 3.0 comes out.

niteowl 02-02-2004 09:19 AM

WOW! I feel sorry for that kid, children can be really mean and they'er sure to get on that one. Some parents can't see the big picture.

lol.
yeah, thats pretty tough.
i'd be upset if my folks called me v3.0... but maybe prep school would have been more interesting.

mbchills 02-02-2004 05:32 PM

hahaha good stuff

yes pretty nerdy, but to each his own

Reese 02-02-2004 06:16 PM

They have Jr. and Sr. and the 3rd, and 4th.. Jon blake 2.0 is the logical next step in naming children. It's not like he's going to use it everywhere.

Am I missing something? Couldn't he have been something like Aaron? Or Mike? Or is there some law about child nameing that I didn't know about?

ubertuber 02-02-2004 06:42 PM

I suspect he'll be hearing people call him "Number 2" quite a bit with their pinkies in their mouths...

pyraxis 02-02-2004 08:56 PM

Poor kid. I'm all for geekdom but... That's something I might name my pet but not a person who's going to have to live with it their whole life.

EbolaVirus 02-03-2004 04:44 AM

That kid is going to get his assed kicked when he gets to high school

Bookman 02-03-2004 07:44 AM

Weeeelllll, if he's Number 2, they can call him "shit" or "Avis"... or "Try Harder".

illesturban 02-03-2004 10:30 AM

you have GOT to be kidding me! That is just plain...NERDY! LMFAO. Is it even possible to give someone a "2.0" suffix? I didn't know that. I'd kill my dad if he did that to me. Fuck that, I'd kill my MOTHER for letting him do it. haha i can't believe it.

Next headline:

Version 2.0 recalled

Jon Blake Cusack, and wife Jamie, were jailed today for endangering the welfare of their baby. Investigators found high levels of nicotene in the baby Jon's body.

Mr. and Mrs. Cusack said they felt compelled to give their child a 'patch', and subsequent patches on an almost weekly basis.

"It was like the patches just went on automatically - we didn't even realize that we had installed them on our baby", remarked the father.

Custody of the child has been awarded to Microsoft, who bought the Cusacks out in an effort to reduce competition.
