bungy jumping

has anyone here bungy jumped?

well my 2 mates went bungy jumping today and i was there just to watch cause i am shit scared of heights. well my first mate jumped no probs, but when it came to my other mates turn all shit hit the fan. he jumped and went down and that was alright, then went back up again and down and up and when he started falling the third time, well the knot came undone that was holding the bungy cord to the rope. he fell about 10 meters into the water (lucky they had water there or he would be dead).

anyway apparantelly this has never happened before and yeah it is a world first.

his back is pretty bruised and at the moment he is at the hosiptal getting a check over cause the doctor sent him there. tis quite bad really.

just thought i would share my weekend holiday story with you.

Wow, that's really too bad about your friend. I don't think I'll ever try bungy jumping, I just can't put my life in the hands of a giant rubberband.

wow, you usually always see stuff like that on "caught on camera" but it's always a different experience when it happens to you or someone you know

Yikes...sorry to hear about your mate. At any rate, I jumped from Bloukrans Bridge in South Africa which is apparently the highest jump in the world (216 meters). Absolutely incredible experience. Not sure I would really get into doing it regularly but I would not hesitate to recommend everyone at least try it once.

I love to watch people doing it but as for me, I dont even think so.

And with your story, I think I have made the right choice!

i went bungee jumping once. but it was only off of a 100 foot crane thing where i paid something like fifty bucks to do it. it only had a free fall of about fifty feet, nothing too big, and it was above an inflated air mattress. i'm semi-afraid of heights, but this didn't bother me a bit and i'd probably do it again, except next time on something a bit bigger. that's kind of scary though about the knot untying. i've never heard of that before either. usually the rope just breaks.

I took a bungy dive about 180 feet above the ground and I am scared shitless of heights! As i was being taken to the top of this arch in a little ass "basket", my knees just turned into rubber. I almost backed out. It was at a water park here in Southern California and there were people everywhere watching. I wasn't about to let a couple of thousand people start laughing at me. So I mustered as much courage as I could and let the operator give me a nudge and off into freefall I went. It was quite a rush and was really fun but I don't think I would do it again. Needless to say that the water park was pretty boring after that.

Some friends of mine tried it when we went to a restaurant staff party. I couldn't do it, because
1) it cost something like $100 and
2) I was plastered

yeah we have joked about sending it into one of them shows, but i dont think we will. as a matter a fact, it is actually the best camera work i have ever done.

we also found out today that the rope didnt actually snap, but because of the humidity the rope swelled and the knot came undone. its a 1 in 1000 chance of happening each day as they re tie the knots each day.

my mates were tryin to get me to do it, but after that i wont. i wont even go upto the platform and watch from up there i am that shit scared of heights.

the good thing is that he is alright and he was even allowed to drink last night (he has some damage done to his kidneys) so we went out and had a great time dancing and drinking, but we kept forgeting that his back was bruised so we would always slap him on it.

Wow...glad to hear he's okay. I've jumped twice, and have always wanted to go again...after reading this though...yikes. Not so sure.

What on earth!? 1 in 1000 chance of the knot coming undone? That can't be right.

I did 4 jumps in New Zealand when we were there and i loved it. Biggest one was 134m i think which is around 5 seconds of free fall from memory - that one was scary!!!

I live about 15 min. from a place called The Bungy Zone. The weekend of Feb. 14 and 15 you can jump for $10.00. Oh yea, you have to do it naked. I don't think I'll jump, but I might just go and watch.

is there any way we can watch that video? I think it'd be interesting to watch. If you sent it into a place like RealTV i'm sure they would sensationalize it.

no thanks- I seem to attract way too many 1 in a million or so events- and with that going for me i feel that i would wind up spelling out a catch phrase on the pavement- something like "coke is life"- and god knows I cant have that happening
