Cannabis made a man shoot his neighbour then kill himself in prison.
Story on BBC website
Cannabis 'led to shooting' The two men had been arguing about a hedge The shooting death of a man in Lincoln is proof that cannabis is not a harmless drug, a coroner has told an inquest. Robert Dickenson, 52, was "drunk and drugged" when he gunned down his neighbour, George Wilson, 66, in the doorway of his Lincoln home after an argument over a hedge. At an inquest on Thursday, the jury at Lincoln Crown Court ruled Mr Wilson had been unlawfully killed and Mr Dickenson had committed suicide, but added neglect in prison had contributed to his death. Coroner Roger Atkinson said it was the worst case he had seen where cannabis had led to such a tragic event. It is a drug which has an effect on the brain Roger Atkinson He said: "I would want to stress... that cannabis is not a harmless drug and this case demonstrates how devastating its effects can be." Mr Dickenson was charged with murder, but hanged himself in his prison cell exactly a week after the shooting in June last year. The jury at Lincoln Crown Court heard how the two men, who were neighbours in Webster Close, had been arguing in the street over a hedge which separated their gardens in the weeks prior to their deaths. On 13 June, Mr Dickenson and his neighbour were seen fighting outside their home after Mr Dickenson claimed Mr Wilson had yanked a trimmer from him. 'Drunk on floor' He claimed he was going to kill Mr Wilson before returning back to his house and grabbing a revolver. He then shot Mr Wilson four times, leaving him with a fatal bullet wound to the head. Mr Dickenson was later discovered by police lying on the kitchen floor in his home, where officers said it was clear he was drunk. He was taken to hospital and later arrested over the death of Mr Wilson, but a week later was found hanging at Lincoln Prison. Cannabis in attic Mr Atkinson, summing up the case, said: "He had a considerable level of alcohol in his blood at the time of the incident. "It is also the case that he was addicted to cannabis which he grew in his attic. "There are people who suggest that cannabis is a harmless drug. That is not the case. "It is a drug which has an effect on the brain and it's clearly had an effect on Robert Dickenson." ---------------- So it wasn't the loaded revolver the man kept in his home. Nor was it the fact that he was blind drunk. It wasn't even the fact that his neighbour had pissed him off in an argument over the hedge. It was the cannabis plants in the attic that made this man shoot his neighbour. This is the sort of news being broadcast to the nation by our taxation funded state broadcaster. Impartiality; my arse. Next year, when they come knocking on my door asking why haven't I got a TV licence, I'm going to present them with this bullshit and tell them to fuck off. I'm not completely ignorant; I know cannabis has long and short term negative effects, however the way it is reported here perfectly highlights the high-level ignorance when it comes to my chosen vice. |

Careful, Shokan, I've heard three 'experts' on the radio today. All of them have confirmed that smoking weed turns you into psycopathic killing machine.
When asked how many incidents of cannabis-psychosis have been recorded in the U.K. the reply was "I'm sorry, there is no recorded data on that matter."

The Coroner is a complete idiot. How someone can say event a was caused by effect b when there is more than one effect happening is unfathomable to me. This guy's job is the proper diagnosis of the cause of death of any body that comes into his morgue and he spouts this crap? He should be fired for incompetence.

I think it is kind of funny to read actually. All of the references to him being drunk and lying on the kitchen floor doesn't mean much when you have an attic full of cannibas. I just wish people would realize that weed isn't going anywhere anytime soon. People are going to continue to grow it and smoke it and legalizing it will only help the situation. This article is an example of what is wrong with journalism today.
Thanks for the post jwoody!

It is a shame the public tolerates such bias views in the media. I wonder how many people today look back at Reefer Madness and think that the people beliving that shit must have been morons, yet accept all the lies that are being pumped out today.
The thing I have been seeing the most lately is that "Marijuana puts more people into treatment than all other illegal drugs combined" What they don't tell you is that the majority of the people are in rehab because they have the choice of that, or prison for possesion charges. |

I love that movie, holo! I was thinking the same thing when i read the article. fuckin hilarious!
The best part was how the article kept mentioning that the guy was drunk, but the cause of his shooting spree was obviously his addiction to herb.

There is no way pot caused that. Hell, get me the mos angry Ive ever been, have me smoke a bowl.
Now all I can think is "wow, i ought to be fucking livid right now, but im not..." Pot had little to no effect in this case. Id say alchohal was the main killer. That and someone who cant control his temper. |

"He had a considerable level of alcohol in his blood at the time of the incident. "
Gee. Alcohol NEVER provokes violence. EVER. Thousands of women AREN'T BEATEN every year due to alcoholism. Alcohol is NEVER responsible for random fights, especially not when people are already in a heated argument. "It is also the case that he was addicted to cannabis which he grew in his attic." Addiction is defined as doing anything to the extent or frequency as to cause interference with some aspect of school, work, or relationships (among a few other things). The label of addiction cannot be applied without researching the life of the subject in question, so to automatically say he was "addicted to cannabis" is false, and rediculous. Just finding a lot of THC in his blood does not mean he was addicted- he grew the shit, he smoked it all the time, but that doesn't mean it was an addiction or that it negatively affected his general demeanor. [sarcasm]But, it MUST have been the pot, NOT the ALCOHOL, because alcohol would NEVER cause a person to become suddenly erratic, angry, OR violent.[/sarcasm] Fucking moron, that coroner. |

jwoody - it's not the bbc you should be upset at, it's the coroner who said those things. all the bbc is doing is reporting on what he said. it wouldn't have been impartial for them to draw attention to the fact that he had a loaded gun, was pissed off his nuts or hated his neighbour, because then they would have been commenting on the coroner's statement. a news story's not the right place to do it. to be fair to the bbc, they're more impartial than most of the people who berate them fro their partiality.

key words: DRUNK AND
Ever listen to the song "The Irony of it All" by the Streets? Classic case of what the drunks are doing being downplayed while weed users are looked down upon. Bullshit. Quote:
