Crappy christmas gift...?

Has anyone gotten a Christmas gift, that you didn't like...and couldn't even begin to fake excitement? That explains the gift I got from my sister this year...I sorta hurt her feelings, because I seriously could not fake anything to make her believe I liked it. Only thing is...why should I worry about her feelings, when in fact...my feelings are hurt because it was a thoughtless gift...one suited for an 8 yr old kid...not a 20 year old guy. She didn't offer to let me return it, or give a receipt either...so finally today, realizing I'd never use it, returned it to the store for store credit...only to realize it was a whopping 9.99 So, if you are keeping track...thoughtless and cheap. I have a gift card for $10 to a store I'll never shop in...

Argh

Hard to post a follow-up to that. Hey, you had the sense to return it and not throw it away. With that gift card, get her a birthday gift.

so. . .what did she get you?

Yeah, about 4 years ago my grandma got me a teletubby doll. This is annoying because 1) I'm male, 2) i'm over 30 and 3) I hate the teletubbies anyway

That's an odd reaction in the context that her feelings were hurt by your not liking it. Perhaps she was low on cash, or the gift had some sort of childhood significance you had with each other? It's easy to say she was just thoughtless but that doesn't seem logical to me since she was upset.

Out of curiousity, what was it?

Ya, sorry if it sounds really inconsiderate...but I tried to not get upset. It just bothered me for some reason...for once I put in alot of time and thought into their Christmas gifts...and spent more than I usually do.

The gift had NO significance to my/our childhood...if you all must know...it was a remote control truck...not even a nice one, a $10 one. Geez, hours of fun.

I guess it just bothered me that my family still thinks I'm a little kid. All I asked for was money/clothes...when are they going to realize thats ALL i really want. I'm starting to really hate xmas...it's just another over anticipated day anymore...my xmas on the whole sucked.

I see, perhaps they're right? Bitching about not getting what you wanted for Christmas isn't the paragon of maturity.

Remote control trucks aren't so bad anyways.

Actually, I'm 41 years old, and I'd kinda like to have a remote controlled truck. Ooohh, better yet, one of those remote controlled skip loaders. I wish my sister would get me one of those. Then again, I don't have a sister. Yeah...a little perspective is in order, and yeah, I am a little immature.

I rarely receive a gift that is inconsiderate, but I sometimes ask myself what they were thinking. This year I received two Christmas ornaments from my sister-in-law and her husband. To start, it was 2 days after Christmas when we exchanged gifts, so the ornaments won't be used for a year. Second, I have lost 50 lbs, and I have about 4 items of clothes that fit me since I haven't bought much on the way down. Clothes were what I requested and what I needed.

It is really hard to reply to your post, you say you want to be treated like an adult but your complaints are so petty and immature it is almost hard to read. Your feelings were hurt from the gift your sister bought you, because it wasn't what you wanted? That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard.

I have two young boys, and got them each a remote controlled car this year. Since they looked so cool, I bought myself one as well (so I could play with them), and am having a great time with it.

All 3 of us can race at the same time.

Personally, I ceased to care what I got for Christmas when I started working and buying my own stuff. If I don't like something I get, no big deal. If I do, nice bonus.

IMHO its the giving thats really important, not the receiving... I personally don't care what I get - it is the gesture itself that makes me happy, even if the object itself is not what I wanted. Seeing the smile on other peoples faces when they open a gift from me is worth a million times more than whats inside the present for me.

Your sister could have ignored you, and not given you anything at all. The fact that she took the time to get you a present shows that you mean something to her. She enjoyed picking that gift for you, and giving it - the least you could do is not punish her for it.

That is so incredibly selfish of you, even though getting you a remote controlled truck was pretty lame for a twenty year old guy.
I mean, yeah, you could have returned it, but, now, you are bitching because it only cost $9.99? O.o

I got a talking tire pressure gauge. WTF? Is this for blind drivers? For people who check their tire pressure in utter darkness?

The person who gave it to me gave my wife one too. I guess we could check the tires on both sides of the car simultaneously with our eyes closed.

I would have loved to have an RC truck, I could be sitting on the couch, drive it to the kitchen, yell 'BEER!' at whoever was near the fridge, and then drive the truck and it's precious cargo back to me.

Hell, what I really need is a robot bartender.

Anyways, I've been specifically asking for nothing for christmas from my parents for the past 7 or 8 years. Yet for the longest time, my Mom would get me knockoff brand name clothes, stuff like 'Tommy' instead of 'Tommy Hilfiger'. I'd accept these with a smile and a thank you, but they'd be tossed in the goodwill box before New Year's.
My mom eventually commented that she never saw me wearing any of those clothes, I explained that they weren't my style, I didn't even like the brands they were copying. I re-explained that I really, truly, seriously, wanted nothing for christmas, but if she felt she had to get me something, a small kitchen gadget would suffice. Anyways, that's all I get now, and I'm happy.

C'mon, a 2-pronged extension cord? One of those orange ones like an outdoor, electric weed-eater type, but 2 pronged. Who is gonna use that?

A water hose?? I rent my house, the landlord takes care of the yard, the wife doesn't plant flowers. What the hell do I need a water hose for?

Some people just don't think. It's like she went to the convenience store down the road on Christmas Eve and grabbed what was left on the shelf.

HAHAHAHA!!!! Well said, that's great!

My fantastic wife, bless her, picks the worst gifts for me in the history of giving - Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Valentines, and everything in between. She has done this for over fourteen years, and I love every one of them. I couldn't care less what the gifts are, just the reason why she's buying them and the love she puts behind it. She just has an uncanny knack for buying stuff for me that I have no material interest in!

I'm sure if I said something to her, she'd laugh and tell me to return them, but I'd never ever do that. I lover her more with every gift, and would never change a thing.

I find it kind of funny that she got you the remote control truck. Especially since you aren't a kid anymore.

But anyways, for me, I really like the giving part. I don't really care about what I get for christmas. It just isn't a big part for me. Just as long as I get something, then I'm happy whether it costs $1 or $1000.

Funny thing is that a couple of Christmas' ago, my 2 brothers both bought me watches They were different styles, but when I opened it, I was pretty suprised that I got 2 watches. Anyways, I used one and kept the other one. Still cool gifts though, except that there was a lack of communication

Screw presents, Christmas for me is all about walking into my moms house and getting mobbed by a horde of nieces and nephews.

For my dad's birthday a couple of years ago, his mom gave him a used lottery ticket, no win. Apparently, there was a bonus drawing for a car, you could send in the tickets without wins, and there was a minimal chance of winning a car. She gave him one next year too.

Jeezz,

You should come to see my family at Christmas, the gifts are worse every year! As a matter of fact I start practicing a fake smile the week before Xmas!

A few examples to show you what I'm on about: a few years ago we (me and my two brothers) got a pair of scissors each, because we were always using my dad's scissors... (how do you react on that one!) Another classic was the post-id notes we all got, no idea why we got them, I still have them, unopened, i never use post-id notes...

My mom is almost as bad as my father: two years ago she gave me a gum, an eraser! and it was the sort of gum that doesn't even gums well, it was just one she had gotten for free in a shop where they sell mobile phones, the game of the shop was even on the stupid gum!!! (in stead of giving me a mobile phone, she figured, "nah, she'll like the gum probably more! )
My brother, when he was 18 and just had his car-license, got a miniature car. He first thought that this stood for a real car he would get... but no way!!! my parents just liked that small toy-car and weren't thinking of giving him a real one!

I tell you, after a few years of lousy presents like that, you really don't care anymore! Every year after christmas all my friends are really curious what stupid things I've gotten this year, so at least it's always good for a good laugh!

This year was actually quite okay, they gave me a book about the history of the twentieth century... and another one about all kinds of stupid inventions over the centuries... don't ask me why!

So your gift isn't all that bad, just stop caring about gifts all together, I know I have a long time ago! Christmas for me is just a happy-family moment on which we eat and drink a lot!

Granted when I got home I took it off right away and probably won't wear it anywhere else but... She liked it - it's her style - and she thinks I like the same clothes she does.

Lol she thinks she's really up on fashion. She looks like a Blair catalogue 90 % of the time.

Who cares if you like it or not. Just be nice and say thank you. There is no need to dwell or be upset about it. Plus if you read what i wrote, Chirstmas mainly for kids. Lets not act like a 12 year old that is upset because they didnt get what they wanted. And why are you so offended is CS733t your friend or something.

heh, i just give them to someone else who will appreciate those items. of course, i am tres careful to give them to folks who don't associate with the person who gave me the gift!!

you should've found some random little kid to give the truck to. you could've brought a smile to a kid's face & been rid of something that you didn't want all in one fell swoop. something to keep in mind for next perhaps xmas?

my brother has bought me xmas presents like twice in his entire life & i rec'd them like 2 yrs later. and it was all crap, but it was the thought that counted. i said thanks & then gave it all way! luckily he lives 7 US states away.

Receiving something crappy is better than not receiving anything at all. It doesn't matter if I don't really like the present, at least I know that the person who gave it tought about me.

Besides, I'm sure I already gifts that people didn't like that much, even if I always try my best.
