10 Year old coke
While cleaning out my closet I found a six pack of Coke that I saved from the Inagural Year of the colorado Rockies. Anyway, Im contemplating trying one, anyone ever had 10 year old coke? Any guesses on what it will taste like? (junk im sure)
|
probably a lot like it would the day it was made, only a lot more sour and bitter. Bacteria growth is a problem, plus there won't be any fizz. Just a guess though. Try it and tell us what it tasted like. Unless it kills you. Then we will take your absence as a sign not to drink 10 year old coke.
|
DRINK IT!!!
I'm betting that it will taste the same, or better than normal coke. Let us know what happens! |
Only drink it if the top hasn't "popped up." If it has, it could have food poisoning. Other than that, I'm curious so let us know what it does taste like, please.
|
I still have an original 1994 World Cup promotional glass coke bottle, unopened. I guess that is also 10 years old.
I think I'll just wait another 10 years and maybe try it. ;) Bacterial growth? How? It's sealed! :) |
Please drink it. Report back!
Please! You'll probably like it so much that the entire 6-pack will be gone in an hour. By the way, I'll bet that closet cleaning project was a long time coming. |
anaerobic bacteria growth could be a problem in a sealed environment, however, the gas generated from that action would long ago bloated the cans.
If the cans are still in the shape they were in 10-years ago, I say go for it. Or, wait... I read about a man that took several bottles of Coke overseas during WW2, shared all but one with his comrades. He brought that bottle back and still has it, minus a bit lost to a house fire that boiled the bottle. Don't remember where I read/heard that, but its true. Coke keeps for a long time. |
I have a 10oz bottle of Coke from when the Tennessee Volunteers' football team won the SEC championship in 1985.
|
got a friend with a case of the last glass bottled mountain dew- she's saving it for something, forget what...
|
i have a bottle of blue nun (white wine) a friend gave me back in 1978. i think the label sez 1975. i don't plan to ever drink it, but i'd imagine it's not so great any more anyway...
ewwwww don't drink that coke! why even risk it? i'll send ya a dollar to go get a fresh bottle. |
If for no other reason than the sense of discovery, drink one.
It's not like beer or wine. I don't think it ever goes bad. |
sell it on eBay :)
|
Are you two serious about wine not being good after x amount of years?
Anyway, drink the coke! LOL< I want to know what it tastes like, but I don't have any that old. Send it to me. /smooth remains disappointed in the type of of coke you found... |
I drink some 3 year old pepsi before. Was very flat and fake sugar tasting. Like those sugar free candies you can get.

Anyhow, I'd try to sell it on eBay. Set a high reserve price so if you don't get at least like $100 for it you can just drink it instead, but it'll be a lot more beneficial to you to sell it I think. I'm willing to guarantee it'll be flat and taste like crap. |
I just recentley drank one os those Star Wars Episode One cans of pepsi. So that's about 5 years old. It was very flat and had a weird taste to it. My stomach didnt feel right after drinking it, but after an hour or so went by I didnt feel so bad....so go for it! Im intrigued to hear what happens
|
Oooooh 10 years.. dang. I would be a little afraid to try it. Do tell us what happens if you do drink some as far as taste and any reactions you may get. How many years ago was it Coca Cola quit using coke as an ingredient?
|
i've got a 10 year old bottle of whiskey here......watta you guys think......should i drink it?

EDIT: I did a little looking and Coca-Cola became officially cocaine-free in 1929 http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/cocaine.asp |

Drink Up! If anything, it will give you a metallic taste in your mouth from the zinc (zinc keeps the cans from corroding) wearing off of the inside of the can from the acidic Coke.

hrm... its been a while since 89transam replied... maybe he DID die... uh oh...
|
I dunno, mabye I will later today (not in the mood right now). There are some identical ones on ebay right now, so if anyone wanted to drink some old coke you too could do so...

If it did the Phish noise when you pulled the tab, i would think it still drinkable. There might be some carmelization of the corn syrup used a the sweetner. The phosphoric acid content should limit any bacteria growth. Like was said in another reply, the zinc might leach from the can metel due to the acidic content, but that would cause the can to leak.
If you do plan to try it, i'd make sure some one else was aware of it. Also, find the number for your local poison control center so it would be handy if something struck you down. Good luck on your great sceintific adventure. |

BTW, I assume that the "Colorado Rockies" are a sports team. Which sport? |
BTW, here's a fun one: unopened beer and soda cans.

I'll find out if I win the bottles I've bid on. Of course, they're glass, with metal caps. Might not be the same.
|
10 year old Coke? I'd sell it to Michael Jackson, because, well, you know... he likes...
bah, nevermind. Dunno where I was going with that one. |
my ma has a bottle of coke thats like 30 years old. It still *looks* like it'd taste the same the day it was made.
|
I won some old Coke. Let's see if he actually ships it.
|
I have some beer in the basement from when the Bengals went to the Super Bowl in 88. Definitely not going to try and drink that. I should sell a case or two on eBay.
|
Id say drink it! But first... throw it in the freezer for about 15 mins. Warm coke is the worst!
