Amen to quitting. That means no pot too. Pot is equally crappy for your lungs. Never done pot, myself. I heard somewhere that smoking a joint is like 12 packs of cigarettes or something...

That might be a bit of an overstatement. I think the way it goes is that sucking on the tailpipe of a bus is equivalent to 20 packs of cigs. As for saying pot is equally as bad as cigs,I would doubt that since pot doesn't have the 250 or so toxic chemicals as cigs do. I may be wrong though, but I've never heard of anyone dying of lung cancer from pot.

I agree. I HATE smokers. They severely gross me out, and I'll stand by my decision that I'll never date a smoker. I did once, and kissing him was like licking an ash tray!

It's good to see that the majority here either don't smoke or kicked the habit.

Never have and never will. It's a disgusting habit... I'll just keep the rest of my opinion to myself.

galaxygirl 01-04-2004 05:23 PM

I am planning on quitting this year, though. (again)

Yeah, ditto.

Smoking is a life-style choice, but it's not for my life-style :D

Ka-ching. My grandmother smokes, so it's almost unbearable to be around her (although I love her with all my heart). Then I have friends who smoke, so that always sucks. I hate being around the smoke, why would I want to inhale it?

legolas 01-04-2004 09:27 PM

I assume you're talking about cigarettes... I had one every once in awhile when I smoked weed, but those days are behind me.

taliendo 01-04-2004 09:47 PM

I guess that I'm going to be a minority here, or no one else wants to admit that they smoke. I smoke a pack a day, started when I was fifteen years old. There was no particular reason why I started, none of my friends smoked, but my parents did - and I hated it.

I can't say that I hate it any more. I know the damage that it causes my body; in fact, I know the exact physiological effects of the toxins - thank you anatomy and physiology. It doesn't really change the fact that I'm a smoker, and probably will be for quite some time. . .

I don't smoke cigarettes, but I do occasionally smoke a cigar. I used to live in a house with 2 heavy smokers as I grew up. The place always looked smokey and smelled horible. Glad I am out of that!

enderfax 01-05-2004 04:37 AM

Im with the dude who said he smokes weed instead of a cig. It really is better in every way possible. Of course...a cig after weed, is even better.

attercop1 01-05-2004 10:21 AM

I don't smoke, my husband has for many years and has recently quit...again...hope he's successful this time. This may be an uneducated question but here goes: if we can remove caffeine from coffee, sugar from soda pop, preservatives/additives/fat from our food why in the name of God can we not make a nicotine-free cigarette available to those who would like to quit but have been unsuccessful??? Is it all about the $$$?

I've been smoking on and off for little over a year now (I'm 19). Right now I very rarely smoke cigarettes, but I do include tobacco when rolling a joint.

I quit in college when I had difficulty climbing stairs without pausing to catch my breath.

My dad smoked for 40 years. He quit cold turky 10 years ago.

He's laying in the cancer ward right now with inoperable lung cancer (seriously). I remember as a kid trying to get him to quit, but he would just smile and light up another one.

Small players plain was his brand of choice.

Death by Lung cancer is not pretty my friend.

My father was cut from petrified oak. Strong, slim, fit. You didn't want to get in his way ever. This has cut him down at the knees. I have to lift him out of bed now.

Quit while you're ahead.

Stiltzkin 01-05-2004 09:30 PM

Never really had a strong desire to take up lung cancer :)

The smell of smoke used to irritate my sinuses and also give me a mild headache. I've since grown immune to it because my mom smokes so much :(
