Can you touch your back?
I've discovered one of us, either my wife or me, is an anatomical oddity.
I can touch my back. There's no part of my back that I can't touch with one hand or the other. In fact, I can touch hands behind my back, right between my shoulder blades. Whereas there are vast stretches of lurkette's (well, pretty small, really) back that she can't reach with either hand. Here I thought that women were supposed to be more flexible than men! She's constantly bugging me to scratch her back, which generally I don't mind unless, as is frequently the case, I'm trying to sleep at the time. This leads to funny situations like: I bought her a telescoping back-scratcher as a gag gift for Christmas one year, and she LOVES it and treasures it and uses it regularly. She carries it with her on business trips so she can scratch her back when I'm not around! Imagine! So am I just strangley-shouldered? Or is lurkette back-reaching-deficient? |
You are so weird.
I love you :icare: |
I dunno, I guess I can scratch any part of my back without assistance, but I have some long arms. So I'm sure that helps.
Maybe it's just a girl thing. Now that I think about it, every single girl I've ever dated always asked me to scratch their back..... |
Well, if he's weird than I am too! I can take my right arm and put it around my back, sorta under.. and the left arm over. and touch them. Wow, that makes no sense.
Yeah, between the shoulder blades, like ratbastid said :D |
I can somewhat shake hands with myself across my shoulder blades,
male as well, so you can statisticize me right now :) |
I think she's pretending so she can get free back scratches from you ;)
|
Everybody has different things they can do. You happen to be able to touch all parts of your back. Lurkette happens to be able to boot yo' ass out of the bed in the middle of the night.
Didn't think I'd remember that one, didja? :D |
Hm...Well I can almost touch all of my back with my arms. I have a bit of a problem when it get's to the shoulder blade area...
|
ummm.. I just like when you ask them to try to reach behind their backs thrusting the boo.....oh never mind. :) private thoughts :)
|
Yea, I can touch all parts of my back. Hell, I can reach around and under, and then touch the back of my head... Provided that makes sense.
|
hmm... like the same with everyone else, i can touch all parts of my back (there isn't a scratch i cannot itch =P). and i've noticed the same thing with women ( no offense to anyone ) but most of of them that i know cannot touch some parts of their backs... it boggles my mind
|
I can't... maybe our shoulders just aren't as loose?
|
I can touch every part of my back, no problem at all.
|
I feel for you, lurk. :)
I can't seem to reach right between my shoulder blades and upper back very well. Using the corner of the doorway is all well and good, but it's kinda inconvenient when I'm trying to get some work done. I came up with a solution a few years back. I forget now where I got it, but I found myself to be the owner of a short sword of about 18 or so inches long. I had a bad itch and was very frustrated because it wouldn't go away. I hit on the idea of using the sword as a back-scratcher. It worked well for a few times, but then in a particularly enthusiastic moment of scratching I cut myself. Oopsy-daisy! :p Growing more frustrated,(and determined not to give my back as thorough washing as it needed;)) I had another rather brilliant breakthrough in back-scratching technology when I realized the little plastic report paper holder I was using, fit over the sword-blade like a sheath, but left just enough sticking out to give a good scratch without cutting me. I used it and abused it 'til it broke. Now I have to resort to doorjams and thorough backscrubbings. ;) |
"Now I have to resort to doorjams and thorough backscrubbings..."
doorjambs work for me... |
Could be that she just needs to strecth out the muscles on the front of her body. Lats and rotator cuff muscles can play a part as well. If you have her stand in facing you do you see the backs of her hands or the sides? If you see more of the back of her hands that means she has some hypercontracted muscles (most likely pec major/minor) pulling her shoulders and arms forward wich can limit flexibility. Many computer types have this sort of thing from being hunched over in front of a computer all day. With some stretching and massage she might be able to reach her entire back eventually:)

I can lock fingers behind my back in either manner: right arm above, left below _or_ left arm above, right below ..
Seems pretty normal to me :) |
I have no problem reaching any part of my back. But then again, I'm unusually gangly. (Everybody tell me so.)
|
You guys are too cute. I'm a pretty big dude, and I never have trouble scratcing whatever part of my back itches with one hand or the other. I have another theory as to why lurkette is always asking for back scratches though. Who doesn't really really enjoy getting back scratches from the person they love?
|
I cannot sit "Indian Style." Many of my friends think I am wierd for this.
|
i bite my nails so i need someone else (with nails) to scratch my back for better satisfaction! :D but yeah I can reach any part pretty much.
But if you're lazy like me, somebody else doing it is better! |

Anyways, I can touch every part of my back, so no I dont think it's weird. |

You're missing out, man. Sitting Indian style is the best. |

i can reach (and scratch ) everywhere but between the shoulder blades with my left hand, right arm has titanium add ons and therefore less flexibility-
|
Nope! I can scratch my back with my thumb... then I can reach.. other than that, i'm screwed. Right arm more than Left, because I generally scratch with my right arm, so its a bit more flexable. But no, I can't shake hands with myself behind my back.. unless i go around my waist....
|
yup, I can touch any part of my back. damn proud of it too!
|
Here’s a twist, I can touch hands in between my shoulder blades if my right hand is on top. But not if my left is on top…..strange?
|
Yep, easy as pie.

I never knew that! |

And I'm very flexible...no trouble touching my back. |

Actually, I'm not as flexible as I used to be. So I can't quite reach the middle of my back anymore. However, it has always felt better when someone of the female persuasion did the scratching. :p |
I can do it when my right arm is on top and left on bottom, but can't even get close when my left arm is above my head and my right arm is below, what the hell!
|
I can do that as well. In fact, I have a very flexible right arm, after dislocating my shoulder.
|
I can't touch my back but I can touch my elbow with my tongue
|
I can scratch anywhere on my back... also grab my wrists
|
Most of you must have small frames. You can reach all of your back if you have a spindly body type. Reach around your wrist with your other hand. If your thumb and middle finger can overlap, then you have a small frame and can probably reach most or all of your back without assistance.
When I try that, my thumb and middle finger are about 1.5 cm apart, indicating a large frame. In other words, I am thick (I am overweight too, but that is a seperate issue). Most of my back is way out of reach. In fact, I have a spot below the tip of my right scapula that itches all the damn time. I live alone and the dogs can't seem to help, so I have back scratchers all over the house. I am known at work to use outside corners of the walls to scratch my back. I envy the rest of you. |

I can lick my own back.
|
I can do scratch all over too
