Do you eBay?

It's simple. I'm just curious. Check all that apply.

santafe5000 12-19-2003 08:20 AM

I have looked at items on E-bay but never found anything i just couldn't live without. I kind of look at it as a giant flea market and don't see anyting that i can't get locally at about the same price when you add in shipping.

wannabenakid247 12-19-2003 08:26 AM

seems pants to me

Prince 12-19-2003 08:28 AM

Shipping tends to be expensive. I like it, though, because I found a 4-cd Prince album for $10 on eBay in mint condition, which a local music store in Finland (where I lived at the time) wanted $90 for.

ninety09 12-19-2003 08:58 AM

If you're lucky, you can find some great deals on ebay.. But most of the time, it's about the same price as stores because of exaggerated shipping

a2k 12-19-2003 09:05 AM

I *used to* ebay. I've gotten ripped off too many times. There are a lot of crooks on ebay happy to take advantage of your trust. Ebay does nothing to help; their '$200 insurance' is a joke.

Hanxter 12-19-2003 09:38 AM

e-bay sux - period!!!

Plan9Senior 12-19-2003 11:15 AM

I have made a ton of money and saved even more using Ebay. Definately one of my favorite sites on the net.

present_future 12-19-2003 11:19 AM

I have only bought a couple of items off of ebay. It does seem that the shipping is rather expensive.

streak_56 12-19-2003 12:24 PM

I've both sold and bought things on E-bay.

sailor 12-19-2003 12:31 PM

Ive bought a couple of things off of eBay. I tend to try to avoid it though--I have heard way too many horror stories. I recently bought a couple things (old computer parts), and got a good deal on them (not to mention I couldnt find them elsewhere), but for the most part, you can find things cheaper elsewhere.

12-19-2003 12:47 PM

Yup- started out just buying, then I sold things I didnt need anymore- clothes, etc.
Now I opened up my own incense/oils business and sell on eBay.
Puressence_Scents...find me! No sales until after the New Year through eBay- just through my site.

Phaenx 12-19-2003 01:03 PM

I ran a business over Ebay for a while. It was fairly profitable since I didn't have to keep a warehouse or a store of some kind, sold a bunch of air purifiers.

SiN 12-19-2003 01:21 PM

hrm, a few things bought, never sold anything myself, but my bf has a couple times.

can be good, if you're smart about it. and lucky ;)

sherpahigh 12-19-2003 01:26 PM

ebay can be great depending on what you're looking for. I've used it to find some "hard to find" glider parts as well as car parts.

i8one2 12-19-2003 01:44 PM

Staying local I have purchased 2 cars and two computers, and of course some tools of the trade<------
The people I dealt with have been super.
Except for one person where I had won a bid-a car, they said it was already sold and then reposted the thing and got a grand more for it! I was royally pissed and at that point, E-bay was a joke, and I had no real recourse...So for me its as the adage goes, Let the buyer beware.....

Conclusion, stay local and understand the laws in your state, especially contract law!

Kaos 12-19-2003 03:48 PM

I have bought about a dozen things off of Ebay and sold 3-4 things.

Now, Ebay has become way too popular and finding a good buy is like a needle in a haystack. And for this poor Canadian, even if it seems like a good deal, after dollar exchange and rediculous shipping costs it's much better for me to just find a store around here that has what I want or go to an online store. ($5.00 shipping for a poster??? No f'n way!)

Spire 12-19-2003 06:09 PM

can buy anything there

viejo gringo 12-19-2003 08:14 PM

I have only made two deals over Ebay. The first digital camera I bought was "not as advertised"--got my money back---the second camera was OK and still using it...

My wife has actually set up the account, and has gotten some very good deals on the craft books/products she has gotten.

Like the man says "buyer beware""

forseti-6 12-19-2003 09:44 PM

I use ebay a lot. I buy a lot and sell a lot. Not too many complaints.

KUGR 12-19-2003 09:48 PM

Bought, sold, I like half.com better! Too bad its going away soon :(

The_Dude 12-19-2003 09:54 PM

i've gotten my ti-85 for about 40 bucks on ebay. great deal.

phredgreen 12-19-2003 09:55 PM

i've bought a couple of playstation games and most of my gundam models through ebay. fairly easy and mostly hassle-free.

Bloodslick 12-19-2003 10:11 PM

Never bought, sold, or even really browsed through eBay. I prefer to go to actual businesses like overstock.com, where I'm not buying from an individual. If I want flea market variety and flea market prices, I'll go to the flea market.

Cycler 12-19-2003 11:03 PM

I have biought one item A Toyota Factory Service manual. Still using it but I bought it from a known Toyota guy from another board. Tried to buy a few other R/C car items things but always got outbid. Never sold. Always cautious.

SecretMethod70 12-20-2003 12:46 AM

I've bought some things from eBay. Mainly just some CDs here and there that weren't mainstream so I got them for a cheap price.

sixate 12-20-2003 04:25 AM

I've never bought a thing on eBay, and never will. Obviously, I never sold a thing either.

What's happening to half.com?

J.R.V.A. 12-20-2003 10:08 AM

I have been using ebay since 98.
The thing that bothers me is we all hear the horror stories about it in the news, yet we don't really here of the millions of good transactions that go on. I have 251 positive feddback, and have 2 negitive feedback. I have bought and sold on ebay, and have been ripped off once. I have dealt with local companies, and have bought many things here in Salt Lake. I have been ripped off many times. I feel safer using ebay than going to my local stores sometimes. Both of my neg feedbacks came from people that where not reasonable, that I had offered to return their money, and they just whined. Some people will not take responibilty for their own actions, and like to balame other people. It's just not on ebay, it is everywhere. ebay is pretty cool, you can get just about anything there, and save a lot of money. Watch what you do, deal only with reputable sellers, and you should have a pleasent experince. As for shipping, I calculate it into my price I am paying, and as such, I don't bid if it is too high. I cannot belive people that bid on stuff and then bitch about shipping, when every auction I have seen clearly state shipping. Look over the auction closley before you bid, and have fun.

herostar 12-20-2003 01:38 PM

Oh I'm an ebayer all right. I buy all kinds of stuff on there@!

Captain Canada 12-20-2003 04:20 PM

Ive used it a couple times. The biggest thing I've bought on it was my PS2. I bought it on ebay the christmas they came out. I just HAD to have one before christmas

Phaenx 12-20-2003 04:24 PM

Oh, I bought a set of golf clubs on Ebay once. They're nice, 100 bucks for a full set with a bag.

anleja 12-20-2003 06:37 PM

I've bought some CDs and vinyl albums on there cheaper than I could have at the music stores in the area. I've had no problems with any of the sellers. I think the feedback ratings help plenty to weed out potentially bad experiences.

amonkie 12-20-2003 07:29 PM

Used it when selling old boat motor parts, and have bought various things that I couldn't find elsewhere, including some rare books.

forseti-6 12-21-2003 08:07 AM

I love using ebay for buying guitars. I'm a big collector of vintage Martin guitars, and the diversity and choice ebay offers is amazing. Sure I don't get to play them first, but I save so much money it's worth the risk. Plus most of the guitars I buy are just virtually impossible to find at local stores. I could buy them online from reputable dealers, but I'd still be paying out of the nose for them.

oberon 12-21-2003 04:38 PM

I use ebay primarily to buy things that can't be found at a reliable seller.

I was ripped off once for an item that cost $300. Never got any of that back. I'm still miffed about it, but it just goes to show that "buyer beware" is good advice.

smarm 12-21-2003 05:44 PM

Never done it. It always seemed like the shipping was where money was made... Looks like a great place to get stuff if you are a collector, though. I have a friend who restores cars and he is always buy the most esoteric parts for old cars on there. He seems to be an old and and gets what he wants frequently. I think he bought a couple of cars on there before, as well.

The other thing that always bugged me about it was that you had to give your address to somebody you didn't know so they could send the stuff to you. I know that is probably the dumbest thing in the world, but it always unsettled me enough that I never bid.

Jam 12-22-2003 12:42 AM

thers no "i used to but some jerkoff never sent me anything so i dont anymore" option
oh and somethigns are funny..

you buy an original NES for 40 bucks or so is what there going for... you can get em from stores used for like 8... and gamecube modems are like going for 50... they are 12 new at stores

skier 12-22-2003 09:26 AM

I buy off e-Bay, usually for things that are hard to find in my area- the specialty stores normally overcharge for more "unique" products. Even with shipping i usually save more than a few bucks.

rogue49 12-22-2003 04:12 PM

Never...I really don't buy things off the internet.
I think I've join memberships to a couple of site for classmate or cards
and about a year ago, I purchased my system from a site my work orders from all the time.
www.pcusa.com

But that was nerve-racking...I really don't trust purchasing stuff where I can't get into their face if they fuck up.
Being scary looking when I'm angry has its benefits. ;)
