NOt sure if this has been posted, but i found this linked on another site about a clever/cheeky idea on eBay.

Pretty clever idea, i thought? i used to think about this at school. In that, if everyone in the world gave me 5cents, yes just 5 cents then i would be soooo fucking rich :D

I think she need's just one intial donation and it may snowball from there? All about inertia ;)

A student in Chicago many years ago paid for his tuition by writing in hiis newspaper column and asking for people to send him a penny. Some sent a penny, some sent more. He ended up with tens of thousands of dollars and donated the money that wasn't spent on college to local charities.

In high school, my uncle had a friend who placed an ad in the local newspaper with the text: "This is it! This is your last chance to send one dollar to [address]" He made a few hundred.

And finally, a study performed by university students across the country revealed that an average pay rate of $14/hr could be achieved by hiding behind a bush and jumping up when people passed by and shouting, "BOO! Give me a dollar."

Also, who can forget Karyn, the inventive young lady (you have no idea how hard it was to come up with somethign non-insulting) who called on the excessively gullible Internet community to bail her out of $20,000 of self-inflicted credit card debt.


I see the success of these people, and wonder if I should try something like this to get out of the financial situation that I'm in. All I did to deserve the debt was to put school before work and not come up with a cure for cancer befor my father died.

i remember a site where a girl got donations online for breast implants... and she actually got the money and the implants...

a dollar is too much to ask for. he should ask 100 million people for a cent apiece.

I remember the boobs website too. I remember a pretty young Asian girl from that website too. She didn't need them either, IMO.

It'll be be interesting to see what happens with this paticular experiment.

Personally, I think eBay's the wrong place to do it. People expect to buy somehing when they goto that site.

It's just a fancy way of begging, using electronic means. I've wondered what type of people would do this. If someone were in need of serious help, and I had the extra money, then I'd help, but to just send a buck? No way.

If there's a sucker born every minute, then the US is a country full of Dum-Dums. (Ha, ha.)

I really should take advantage of that fact sometime.

Ahh yes, Karyn. I can't believe she got out of debt AND wrote a book.

I remember reading about that chic on Fark and laughing my head off. It amazes me that anyone felt sorry for her and her self-inflicted debt. I know I didn't.
MrSelfDestruct, I'd say if you are in financial straights, why not try it? You'd get at least enough to cover your advertising costs. Do it before tons of others do and everyone becomes jaded to the idea.

Interesting idea. So many variations possible, too. A dollar is too much to ask for though. The penny idea seems too little though. Maybe a nickel? A nickel is so cliche though. 25 cents might work but to some that is still too much to just part with.

They have to pay for postage as well.

Blimey - it really is easy to get rich online. I'm in the wrong job - I'm workig for a living! I hould just ask people to give me money! Problem solved! :)

she should at least offer to send each person who sends her a doller some nude pics or a pair of her panties or somthing.....


she deserves nothing

This may be one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. Not because it's some brilliant idea, but just because someone's finally trying an idea I had way back in middle school.

The fact that she's being honest about where the money's going is cool. It's not like she's giving up some sob story, she just wants to get rich! If I had a dollar to spare, I'd give it to her out of curiosity.
