Kid gets arrested for threats on a forum
Here is the story...
http://www.thewgalchannel.com/educa...774/detail.html LANCASTER, Pa. -- A 12-year-old boy is being evaluated after allegedly threatening to go on a killing spree at school Tuesday. Pittsburgh police were alerted Monday night to a posting on the Web site www.horror.com. The posting by Freddy Fan reads: "I really am. I'm going to kill my teacher tommorrow and a lot of other people in my school. I'll probably kill a lot of people." The original posting had a number of responses to it. Freddy Fan responded to them, saying, "Guys I am not kidding around. I am serious. If they blame it on the horror movies I'll tell them that horror had nothing to do with this. I won't be in deep shit because I'll be killing everybody who stands in my way. If I get killed then I'll be happy with that." When another user suggested contacting the authorities, Freddy Fan wrote that he would kill the local authorities. Freddy Fan's last posting reads, "I am only settling this on the people that have made me do this. not innocent people. I have to take a stand. That is final. nobody, and i mean nobody, will change my mind." Police contacted the Internet service provider and were able to locate the address of boy. The West Earl Police Department in Leola searched the boy's residence. "We seized computer equipment, along with a knife that was found in his backpack," Police Chief Brian Brandt. He was taken into custody at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday. The boy's name and school he attends have not been released. here is the link to the message board posts. http://www.horror.com/forum/showthr...p?threadid=1836

I kinda laughed at this. Imagine that... being held accountable for what you say online.

Is anyone else tired of reading about kids doing these types of things? Glad that someone informed the proper authorities before we hear of another tragedy on the six o'clock news.

Yeah. I got all indignant, thinking police were arresting something for something stupid... But then I read the article, and no, he probably deserved to be arrested for that.

Posting something like that on a whim is stupid, but may not be serious. Posting over and over, and going into detail, and rebutting comments about you "just joking" make it serious. Serious threats definitely need to be directed to the attention of the proper authorities. I'm very glad this was done. Even if he WAS "just playing around", there are some subjects you simply do not "just play around" with- kinda like joking about having a bomb on you in an airport, or plane. He'll learn common sense, if nothing else. I hope someone smacks that little shit around for a while, too.

Also, the education is much better then local schools. It's much more difficult, and there's no teacher there to help you. You pretty much learn out of a book and when there's a test you'd better know your shit or you're boned. It's a lot like college, and indeed most ivy leagues prefer home schoolers for that very reason. Plus, there's no faggots walking around your house drinking deep the darkness of their eternal pain, plotting to blow up the school because Marilyn Manson decreed all conformists must die.

Homeschooling can be more challenging, and you can learn more. But that is not necessarily the case. I am undecided on the issue. |

On the topic about the kid posting the death threats online, of course this was an incredibly stupid thing to do, but I have a feeling this kid has major issues going on in his life. His family is probably screwed up. If you had a 12 year old kid that was posting death threats online, if you were a good parent you'd get the feeling that your kid has been feeling depressed or angry lately and maybe GOD FORBID you should talk to him instead of letting him play Halo for 8 hours a day.
As for the home schooling thing, that's fine if it worked for others but I personally would not do it for my child, especially in junior/senior highschool. This is mainly due to the fact that multiple teachers and different expertise in different areas. The chemistry teacher studied chemistry in college, the biology teacher studied biology, the history teacher studied history etc etc. They have a wealth of knowledge that I and my spouse (if I ever get married) would not posses. Furthermore, yes you can get some quasi social stuff by participating in some extra curriculars and doing home schooling, but I personally believe that school teaches kids how to be in that same enviroment 7 hours a day as that big dumb kid, the really smart kid, and the pretty girl. And most importantly how to respond to each of them and where they fit in.

Aw, come on Phaenx, lets not blame poor parenting skills and pent up anger on marilyn manson. Thats what is wrong with the world today, people blaming problems on everyone else instead of what really caused it in the first place.

I bet that was a hell of a shock to the kid when he found out (the hard way) that his actions have consequences, even on the internet.
I think though that this was more of a cry for attention than a serious thought process, although he may have had some crazy plan to do more serious damage with that knife.

Can you say "Cry for Help"?
Here's the original thread with the threats. (Somebody mentioned the link above didn't work) Here's the thread at horror.com where the person who reported him to the FBI follows up with the story. There was a thread here at TFP a while ago asking about this very thing--what would somebody have to do or say here to have somebody here take action about it. I've got to say, I'm pretty proud of the members of the horror.com forum for what they did. They likely saved at least one life. Last edited by ratbastid; 12-15-2003 at 07:18 AM.. |

Cry for help? Bloody hell, that's a cry for help if ever I saw one:
"Another thing is that I'll burn in hell because God sucks. Where was God when I needed a friend? Why isn't he making things better? These questions are unawnswered but I'll find the answers. I am truly sorry but I am going through with this" I feel scared just thinking about what was going through his mind when he wrote that. I've been on the brink of suicide in the past and have been to the bottom of depression valley and back - I can empathise with the thought of feeling crap and wanting to kill yourself and your bullies at school (I was very badly bullied at school). I never actually did anything though. Sad. Just very, very sad...

She is now 10..she just took her Iowa basic skills test and placed in the top 2% of the nation and for what would typically be 5th grade work she placed on the same level with 9th graders. I was worried that I would not be able to educate my own child but I have not only put that worry aside, I can be proud that I know my child IS getting a good education. Homeschooling USED to be non-social, but no more, I wish those of you that make statements like that would take the time to know what really goes on in the life of some homeschooled children.

Wow, that is really scary. Thank god we don't have people like that here at the TFP, right ?
I'm glad that other kid reported him and no one got hurt in the end. I think the kid was just crying for attention, maybe this is some sort of vengeance against his parents who didn't pay enough atention to him. (and no, I'm not trying to blame the parents or Manson) Just another case of a kid that is damaged for the rest of his life, how sad.
