John Lennon
He was killed 23 years ago today. Coincidently, it was also a Monday. I remember watching Monday Night Football and hearing the news from Howard Cosell. A very deep sense of grief seemed to hang overhead for days and days. Not just with me but nearly everyone I knew. To me his death marked the end of an era, a loss of ideals. The sad irony is that someone so dedicated to peace was taken out by raw violence.
John, we're still thinking of you. Imagine... |

I remember finding out on the radio. I was 13. It seemed so tragic..so huge. I was in school in Allen Texas which was a really hick town back then. Later that week my english teacher told the class he deserved to die because he was a druggie. I still pity that small minded woman.

Wow, that English teacher comment had me gaping. WOW.
I didn't have the opportunity to be around when Lennon was alive, but I appreciate the music he created. When I hear a song like Imagine, it makes me sad to think that such talent was destroyed so suddenly.

I was only nine when he was killed, but I was a huge Lennon fan already at that young age. He was one of only two artists I actually shed a tear over, Stevie Ray Vaughn being the other.

I remember the day. I was a senior in high school. Was learning to play the guitar and
had my eye on a huge Beatles sheet music book. Went back to the store to buy it a week later and the price was double. Fuckin' wankers. It was certainly a tragedy. I'm sure there were many years of brilliance yet to be shown. Certainly there have been many societal issues on which he would have commented in song. But I can't help thinking that if Lennon had to be taken early, why couldn't it have happened <b>before</b> he wrote '<b>Give Peace a Chance</b>'?

Why him and not that bitch Yoko.
She was talent less, as a artist and a singer. But Lenon was great. Yea some weird ideas but hey we all have our moments, he just had the opportunity to have them put through the media.

The worst thing about losing John that made it more painful than losing people like Jimi, Janis, Morrison or Belushi was that John's life was taken away from him. The others had their own battles and lost. But John was so brutally taken without a chance. That's what makes it a true tragedy.
I was too young at the time to remember it, but it breaks my heart whenever I think about it.
