I occassionally say it. But when I lived in Europe for a number of years a lot of people used to tease me when I'd say it so I basically stopped.

I catch myself saying 'eh' once in while, too. I see nothing wrong with using it or with the yanks teasing us about it. Every culture (country) has it's oddities. If we didn't, what reason would we have for laughing at others, eh?

I do say roof properly, i.e. rooooooof, unlike my american friends who say "ruff" That one drives me crazy (when i watch all those american fixer upper shows)

It's common AND it's an American sterotype. Sure I say eh sometimes but the way I see how other American protray Canadians saying eh is just fukin stupid. Americans that play as Canadian in some comedian movies say eh all the goddamn time!

As for saying eh..I do say it. I usually don't realize it but every now and then I do and just laugh. It is just a part of speech though...I find a lot of americans say... "you know" and "like", etc.

Oh my god... I say eh so very much its scary. Me and allll my friends. My b/f recently came to Canda for the first time...and couldnt believe it that EVERONE said it! Even random waitress's!

All these regionalisms make a person sound uneducated. Sorry, but it's true. I have nothing against it, but it does communicate anything positive about you when you use it.

I can say with some certainty that it doesn't come through in my business discussions, but rather in a social, or informal setting. That is, I can use it when it's "appropriate."

I wonder how many San Francisco lawyers use "hella" in their colloquial language but not in their legal briefs. Corollary: I wonder how many "Y'all" -speaking Southerners actually use "You all" (which is still a silly thing to say) periodically.

I worked with a Canadian for a while and she said eh, even though she swore she didn't, I caught her a couple of times. She didn't say it as much as the sterotype type would suggest though, only once in awhile. Just my two bits...

Nope, Minx didn't miss the best thing about (or "aboot", as it's pronounced up there) Canada....she is the best thing about Canada!.

....but that's just my opinion. I could be right.

New Yorkers do that too, with "Or What?"...(i.e.- You got a problem, or what? or Hey, drop dead...or what?)...it's kind of spooky.

No you won't...."A" seems to be the only vowel you guys are familiar with, so I'm not getting my hopes up......just look at the name of your country: Canada...:lol:
