Funny Prank At Work

The prank started when a fellow co-worker had a grumpy week and a half then took the day off before thanks giving. That's when we thought it would be fun to mess with his computer a little bit. If you ever have a co-worker with a computer you want to play a trick on, here are some good ones.

1) Clamp his keyboard tray to the back of the desk
2) Put a little bit of tape over the optical mouse hole
3) Do a screen capture of the desktop as it was left
4) Hide all of the icons in a folder on the C drive.
5) Take the screen capture and make it the back ground.
6) Move the task bar off the top of the screen (makes it a lot harder to find.
7) If possible put double sided tape into their hat.
8) Double sided tape onto the ear piece of the phone.

The guy didn't say a whole lot other than that we must have had a slow day, but it did take him about 45 mins to get everything back to normal.

A great way to return to work on monday after a holiday :)

In the past we have totally covererd my co-workers cube in tin foil. Every little scrap of everything was wrapped in it - it looks pretty amusing and takes a while to get something unwrapped!

Makes me wish I was in the work force...

BeatBox 12-04-2003 01:30 PM

You forgot the dog turd in his cabinet!!!

Oh wait, that's really mean :p

aurigus 12-04-2003 01:33 PM

Yeah, can't you tell we are productive?

Oh yeah; another one of my co-workers put an old unwrapped hamburger in the computer of my boss. He only found it weeks later when it was all stinking an decomposing. It was especially good because he put it next to the hard drive to get it nice and warm.

LOL, that's brillant! What company you work for? Just so that I know when to keep my eyes out after holidays...

::snort::

I especially like the screen capture bit. Hmmm.... things to do to my husband. ::grins::

Try freezing some shaving cream(foam kind) then cutting the bottom off of it and putting it in their desk drawer:)

aurigus 12-05-2003 08:34 AM

This goes along with the roomate pranks thread, but another thing you can do is to switch 2 keys on the keyboard, like m and n. If they are hunt-and-peckers, then it will really confuse them :)

wannabenakid247 12-05-2003 09:33 AM

Yeah I love the screen capture as well.

Switch the keyboard layout from QWERTY to AZERTY.
Reboot
Watch them wonder why the hell their password doesn't work.

Works best on Windows XP or if login name is already in the box when it boots.

Wow, that's priceless right there. How I miss my office days . . .

KUGR 12-07-2003 03:24 AM

One of the best things to do is to take a screen capture of some excel document or smth, then set it as a screen saver and then unplug the mouse and keyboard :)

Reversing the buttons on the mouse is pretty good too :)

aphex140 12-08-2003 04:30 AM

Instead of a burger - a fish finger without the bread coating, .
The smell is so vile ( good to play on females- starts all kinds of rumours about hygene) , it starts quicker and is smaller.

numist 12-08-2003 04:42 AM

my friend uses dvorak normally, and has his buttons switched by default

you wouldnt believe how annoying it is to use his computer... sure Im geek enough to do dvorak if I need to, but the button switching is crazy, I wind up just putting my fingers off the side of the mouse so I can still use my index finger...

I played the desktop trick on his roommate though, about 3 days after I duct taped aforementioned friend to his bed...

Fun times...

At bf's work someone gave a hideous garden gnome to someone else as bday present. After that the gnome was always on the desk of the person who went on vacation (open office, but thank god no cubicles). The office gnome greeted people who came back from a holiday. Their boss had missed this tradition cos he has his a private room with big palm and some other plants in the same pot. He didn't notice the gnome lurking in the bushes for weeks and people who went to his office had hard time keeping normal face while talking to him. Eventually he found it, took it to his secretary's desk and looked really dumbstruck asking if she has any idea why the statue was in his plants. :)

wait, let me get this straight. your friend took a normal QWERTY keyboard and swapped the keys to get a dvorak layout? dont the keys feel strange now? i was thinking about going to dvorak, but i really didnt want to fuck up my keyboard by swapping around all the keys, and having the shapes all out of whack...

A dorm-mate of mine used to prank everyone's computer when we left our rooms unlocked (mainly d/l gay porn and hide it).

His GF came down one weekend from Oklahoma (we're in Texas so rivalry there already), and we decide to prank him hard. We deleted all of his Internet Explorer icons on his desktop, start menu, everywhere. The d/l'ed gay porn and replaced their video icon with the IE. Then we disabled the right-click on the mouse to make things more difficult, and moved his IE folder to somewhere in system so he couldnt easily replace them.

Needless to say he was quite pissed when his GF tried to read her email.

Good idea but should probably tone the video to something funny if it's at work

Switch the keyboard type to devorak or to regular, there is also a program I've used that changes caps lock every second and it stays hidden. Added with other stuff mentioned it would be very hard to figure out what the exact problem is.

nukeu666 12-09-2003 09:49 AM

i dont get the screenshot one...what do u do in it?

in the freezing the shaving foam one....will the drawer explode from the foam after thawing?

Pragma 12-09-2003 11:47 AM

The screenshot one, lemme try to explain:

If you take a screenshot of their desktop, with the icons on it, etc., and then set it as the wallpaper, it appears as though nothing as changed. However, when you then move the real icons off the desktop, the screenshot (now set as wallpaper) still shows that the icons are there.

So they click on the "icons", and it has no effect. Try clicking on a blank portion of your wallpaper - same effect. Nothing.

We have a guy here who is infamous for destroying company issued portable phones by immersing them in water.

After the last one we strung working can-and-string phones through the drop ceiling from his office to several other important locations within the building. We actually made him use them for a few days while we got his phone replaced, then handed him a working phone sealed in one of those food-sealer vacuum bags.

We actually wrote a visual basic program that improved on this classic. It used the desktop as a background, and would do something amusing after a random number of clicks failed to do anything. We even made it so the taskbar clock would appear to update properly.

The poor schlep we tested it on had a picture of his daughter on his backgorund, and after the limit was reached we had a pop-up text balloon come up from his daughter to colorfully insult his technical competency.

We only ever used it a couple of times, but each reaction was always better than the last.
