smut lovers beware
New Trojan horse poses as smut
25 November, 2003 Surprise, surprise -- a new Windows-based bug is on the rounds, and this time, it's hiding itself as the illicit details of a tryst "accidentally" sent to you instead of to "Mary." The Trojan horse attached, known as Sysbug, is supposed to be an archive of photos of said tryst. Instead, it is a worm that will allow hackers access to infected computers. The e-mail shows the increasingly sophisticated nature of malware writers, taking advantage of the general public's sense of voyeurism. In a release discussing the Trojan horse, Sophos security analyst Chris Belthoff summed it up: " If your name isn't Mary, and you didn't have unprotected sex with a guy called James the other night, what on earth are you doing even thinking of opening the attachment?" Recent bugs have disguised themselves as nude pictures of celebrities, security patches from Microsoft, a form for "renewing" one's PayPal membership, and other deceptions.

Yeah, I doubt that will be much of a problem, its no different than the email viruses that have been going around forever...

While most viruses can be avoided using common sense and the usual guidelines, it's always helpful to be forewarned.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the warning. The members of this board are computer savvy enough to know not to open e-mail attachments from strangers. I feel sorry for all those idiots out on the Internet that are tempted to open the attachment just because of the description. I guess they get what they deserve. Although I doubt they will learn anything from their mistake.
