Adverse effects of weather on the body

When the pressure changes my joints pop and/or ache (and no, I'm not all that old...). I woke up this morning with a bloody nose because of the cold, dry weather. Ugh... I have never had heat stroke, but I get dehydrated really easily when it is hot and completely unexpectly I've found myself stretched out on the ground trying to work craps out of my legs.

How do changes in weather effect you? What's the weirdest thing that has ever happened to you because of a change in the weather?

Mongolguy 11-22-2003 11:07 AM

When there is a big change in the weather/ barometric pressure I get massive headaches. We went from a record high temp two days ago (72F) to 11 inches of snow today. My head hates me. :(

lurkette 11-22-2003 11:19 AM

When the temperature changes dramatically, I get some joint pain in my knees, especially the one I had surgery on at age 14. They had to shave a bit of cartilege off the back and it's never been quite the same. I get those pressure change headaches, too, and when we go to Utah to visit ratbastid's family I tend to get really REALLY dry skin to the point where it can crack and it hurts to wear clothes. Eucerin cream is my friend.

Oh yeah... when winter comes I have to watch out for good ol' dandruff. Awesome.

I feel pressure changes in my right ear like noone else. I can always tell when a weather change is coming because my right ear plugs up and refuses to pop. It's more annoying than anything...

Dry weather makes my nose bleed.

Cold weather in general makes me miserable. I just can't tolerate it.

Having metal in my back, I will occasionally hurt when it is cold. Oddly enough, the donor site in my hip where they took the bone to fuse to my back is the storm indicator BIG TIME! When I am hurting there, it's pretty safe to assume a storm is coming in.
It is a white out blizzard outside right now...Yup, I'm feeling it.

However, I have a difficult time tolerating extreme heat! UGH! Headache, nausea, tired, ornery...blah, blah, blah. And I get what you are saying Lurkette! Cold or hot, it is a dry climate in the west and can be hell on the skin! I love it when I go to the Carolina's and my skin gets a moisture boost!
*sighs as she looks at the blizzard outside*

When it's cold out, I generally have a lot of problems with my knees and my back.

TheShadow 11-22-2003 10:13 PM

I get nose bleeds from dryness, allergies in the spring, and colds in the winter. Also, I can't play sports well in the fall and in winter, well... those that involve running around outside, like soccer. Whenever it's cold, I cough alot when I run, and it cuts my endurance to around 1/4 of the norm... I hate weather. :p

WarWagon 11-22-2003 10:25 PM

Allergies in warmer weather, and athsma usually during temperature changes. I tend to get a lot of sinus infections in the warmer weather, too.

I've got a lot of back, knee, and shoulder problems, but they seemed to be aggravated moreso than usual when I would work outdoors in colder weather.

The thing I notice most is hands/legs are noticebly thinner from contracting- have to keep checking to make sure my rings are on. Not harmful so much in 50ish weather, but anything lower than that and it gets painful

present_future 11-23-2003 08:09 AM

Whenever it gets really cold, my left thumb hurts a little bit. The only reason I can think of is that I broke it a few years back.

theguyondacouch 11-23-2003 02:11 PM

When it gets cold my knees ache, especially my right one, which i got surgery on in my early teens. I was screwing around on my bike, landed really hard, heard a pop. Pulled a chunk of bone off the top of my tibia, now part tianium :D. Also, my ears get blocked before storms.

guthmund 11-23-2003 08:35 PM

I have pretty bad knees (they're genetic) and a wacked out left shoulder so, when the big stuff is coming I feel it in advance.

It seems a lot of you have the "wonder" knee. I wonder why we get aches and pains in our joints when the weather is turning rough?

mingusfingers 11-23-2003 09:07 PM

My lips dry out. Heck of a lot better than some of the stuff I'm reading about.

SparklingDot 11-23-2003 10:03 PM

My asthma gets bad when the weather changes, and when it suddenly gets cold, I get awful sinus headaches.

Go figure. I work at an ice cream place, and always lok forward to it because it is always the right temperature in there.

WhoaitsZ 11-24-2003 12:32 PM

cold weather is nothing short of satan's magick for folk with bone problems, especially joints. today i woke up and got up immediatly. it got cold today and my legs felt like someone bashed them with a baseball bat.

my asthma goes nuts, too.

i think redraven and i both could be weathermen due to our constant abuse by nature.

I think it has to do with the changing pressure. Kinda like how your ears pop in elevation changes, it is sort of the same thing. Everything moves around in there because the atmosphere has actually changed.

Working in a school you can almost see the weather changing in the attitudes and behaviors of the kids. The more extreme the weather change the more extreme the reaction from the kids.

clavus 11-24-2003 04:25 PM

I've found that I get severe bruising and occasionally lose consciousness when I spend time outdoors in golfball-size hail.

...and don't even get me started about lightning.

raeanna74 11-24-2003 04:28 PM

Right before a thunder storm I get ansty, hyper, and want to go outside. I just can't seem to sit still. I get all kinds of energy and get a lot done around the house. We got a cat this summer and I noticed right before her first thunderstorm with us that she was acting like me, or visa-versa. My theory is the ozone that I smell (that's what I've been told anyway) increases my oxygen intake. Dont' know how true or cracked up that is.

Sho Nuff 11-25-2003 11:07 AM

I have two bad knees from a 3 year old skydiving accident that ache in the cold weather. Other than that though i only suffered from increased pulse, sweats, fluttering heart and sweaty palms because with the first snowfall comes a whole new season of snowriding! That first trip down the mountain makes all the aches and pains worth it.
