Does anyone else feel "beat to the punch"?

I feel like I always get beat to a comment. I see a topic I want to make a comment on and there is about 10 other replies just like it. Sometimes I go ahead and post anyways but sometimes I just feel beat to the punch. I'm really interested to see if I'm the only one that feels this way.

Yup almost all the time. That's why I didn't post much the first few months on the board. Now I post my thoughts if just to add onto something someone else said.

i jus registered a couple of days ago.. and its already happened to me a couple of times... so yeah.. i feel your pain.. well.. if you wanna call it pain

ARTelevision 11-15-2003 01:24 AM

No. I don't see it that way at all. I just post my response to the topic or to a previous poster's response. A thread is a running dialog. Sometimes points get restated. But that happens in typical conversations all the time.

datalink7 11-15-2003 01:59 AM

I was going to post a thread on this topic, but I guess I got beaten to the punch. :(

:D

World's King 11-15-2003 03:03 AM

When I do get "beat to the punch" I just make some random comment that really has nothing to do with the topic. It keeps me involved and I get to voice my opinion.

*clips his toe nails*

Yup.. I hate to post in discussion threads with alot of posts because I hate repeating something. If I really want to reply though I think of something that hasn't been mentioned and use a *I gotta agree with *insert name* on this subject*

Just like World's King :)

when somebody beats me to the punch, it just forces me to take another step up the thought ladder, and once in awhile i fall off it and break my head but at least that will poke a whole new bunch of useless perspectives into the organic computer that resides inside of my skull.

Baldrick 11-15-2003 08:04 AM

It happens. But if all of my thoughts have been stated as well or better than I could elaborate, there are plenty of other threads to move on and comment on.

Spanky Johnson 11-15-2003 08:18 AM

Yes, that's why I don't post that much. I can't get on the board at work so I don't have much chance at catching a lot of posts early.

GuttersnipeXL 11-15-2003 01:15 PM

I don't feel that way. I'm going to post no matter what was said before if I feel so inclined. If someone has said something I was going to say, for me it is easy to come up with something else to add. Anyway, that is what threads are for...post your comment! Discuss something within the thread topic. It's definently not going to take anything away from the thread. Who knows...maybe what you post will spark some new dialog and keep the thread interesting.

pocon1 11-15-2003 05:20 PM

even the really busy posts seem to peter out after 70 responses. I guess people figure that they will be ignored after that point.

DAMMIT! Someone just posted this.

(just kidding :) )

LaughingCow 11-15-2003 05:34 PM

Yeah, happens to me a lot and sometimes it stops me from posting, but not always.

The only time it bothers me is if I think of something I wouldn't think anyone would think of saying, and it turns out I was wrong, and it's been said.

tangledweb 11-15-2003 05:41 PM

It really depends on the topic for me. If it is an opinion type thread, I will chime in anyway but if it is a thread seeking advise/information I will skip posting if my POV has already been touched on.

spectre 11-15-2003 08:41 PM

There are a few posters on here who have similar opinions on some topics. They usually post to a thread before I can.

dnd 11-16-2003 06:42 AM

a lot of the time i feel someone has said what i wanted to say but in most occasions its been put a lot better then i could have done so i don't complain, and will post a small comment :)

legolas 11-16-2003 12:02 PM

Wow, well I feel better at least. It's not just me.

Gortexfogg 11-16-2003 12:07 PM

If only one person has posted how I feel about something, I'll post saying "yah, me too". but if someone else has already said "yah, me too", then I just leave it be. If that makes sense...

analog 11-16-2003 01:28 PM

I don't really see it that way, either. Most of the time when I post a reply, if someone has said the exact same thing I'd have said, they didn't go into the detail that maybe I would, so I elaborate on my opinion. If someone manages to post exactly what _I_ would have, I quote them and give them props for doing so, and maybe add a tiny something just for the hell of it.

numist 11-16-2003 01:31 PM

if you are constantly on the forum though, its not difficult to be the beater ;)

Sometimes though, you think you have a great comment to the first post, and its already been said, but Art has the right idea. its a running dialogue, you are still reacting to the beginning, when you need to catch up to the end.

taliendo 11-16-2003 09:20 PM

yah, me too
