i'm 21 today... suggestions on what to order at the bar?
So it's my birthday today... i'm gonna sip bacardi like it's my birthday...
well, not really, but inevitably my friends will be taking me out to a bar since I'm the youngest of the group so they'll be quite happy that everyone gets to go out now. Anyway, what's a good drink to order? I prefer sweet stuff, as in I'm not too fond of beer but I love Mike's hard lemonade, strawberry daiquiris, etc... so any suggestions? oh, and feel free to contribute to the "i want to buy an iPod for myself" fund |

If it is your 21st birthday, you shouldn't be ordering anything. Everyone else orders for you. And since they were so kind to order for you, it would be rude to turn them down.
Good luck.

Citron Martini Extra Dry, with a twist.
Happy Birthday... if that's too strong flavored, ask for an Apple Martini

If you want to start off with a shot or two, just to warm things up before moving on to sample the finer aspects of alcoholism, I recommend Johnnie Walker Black. It's a scotch that goes down pretty smooth, invests a nice warmth as it does so, and isn't too expensive.
Then, I'd have a small glass of water -- or some beer nuts or something -- to clear the palette. After that, I'd definitely go with an Apple Martini (Cynthetique recommended a Citron Dry, which I've never had, but I've been told are quite good), a buttery nipple, a midori sour, a malibu if you like coconut, stuff of that genre. Also, don't let your friends tell you sweet drinks are for ladies; the goal is to get wasted and have a good time, so who cares who's drinking what?

Anyway, all the flavored vodkas are good. I'm not the right person to ask. I only drink beer and scotch so...

Alright -- Here's a good idea that will make your 21st a memorable one...
Grab one of those small notebooks -- something like 3" X 5". Have everyone who buys you a drink sign the notebook and then you put a comment on the same same after they sign it. When you read the notebook tomorrow its pretty amusing to see how clear mided you are at the beginning and how absent minded and drunk your signatures and comments get toward the end....

Is it really hard to get outside of Minnesota? It's really common around here. I only know of 1 or 2 bars that don't have it. Not counting the cheap "just get drunk and leave" bars, of course. |

Can't go wrong with Captain Morgans n' coke. I concur with World's King about the flavored vodkas, Stoli makes a killer vanilla vodka.
Oh, and the mandatory degrading blowjob shot is a must for every birthday (plus they are pretty good too). |

Shoot, in my circle of friends 21st means everyone orders for the birthday boy, we waltz from bar to bar to get free shots/drinks at each bar (got everything from Long Islands to Blow Jobs and Scooby Snacks and Blue Rain; all tasty drinks and shots), and last but not least what we call Puking Rally. At our last stop my buddies ordered me a Long Island and a White Russian, and then slipped me a Three Wiseman to finish me off! Apparently I still went to the strip club after that, and apparently I was getting lap dances galore (don't remember this part), and apparently I was then found outside and next to the strip club hunched over a banister and blowing chunks in a juniper (all this according to my friends, after the three wisemen I don't remember a single thing).
So, have fun, go all out! and remember, the more drunk you are the better tasting and better looking everything is! |

Coupla whores and a pound of crack..
Seriously, though.. Bloody Mary is nice. Not sweet as such, but not bitter either. You don't want to drink too much sweet stuff coz you'll puke. Mind you, you don't want to drink too much tabasco if you're gonna puke, but it will get you high.

haha, thats one reason i'm so glad i don't live in america! having to wait until you're 21 to drink legally must be awful! yay to drinking at 18! long live Great Britain!
personally i would recommend Hoegaarden which is a white beer from belgium but dunno if u can get it in the states. otherwise you can't go wrong with vodka and any mixer.

If you decide to try a whiskey and Coke, make sure they don't use Jack Daniels. Single malt whiskey is much better here. Glenmorangie, Oban or Glenlivet are good choices. Not cheap, but great for this kind of occasion. Sour mash is better just by itself.
As dnd said, a Belgian beer or three is also recommended. Look for the ones that are stopped with a cork rather than a bottle cap.

Seagram's 7 7, it's just seagram's whiskey and some old 7up. Man it's easy to drink though and you get smashed np.
My other personal fav is a screwdriver. I use to drink these so much that now regular oj tastes like vodka. Vodka and whiskey if you're a first timer might be rough though. Stay away from the cement mixer, the gorilla snot, and all the variations. The cement mixer is irish creme and lime juice, you take the shot of irish creme and hold it in your mouth, then you take the lime juice shot, it curdles in your mouth like old milk haha. The gorilla snot is the same thing just port instead of lime juice. |

Smirnoff ice is a good 'keep drinking' drink. Gets you drunk slowly, tastes nice. Doesn't give you a terrible hangover the next morning.
