Eldaire, how long has this been going on?
My guess, based on my experience, is that your health will start to deteriorate very rapidly. However, some people (very rare) are funny with sleep. They react well to stimulants, in that they can basically take amphetamines but retain the capacity to tell what is good and what is not. The most famous example is the mathematician Erdos, who only slept a couple of hours a night and made a huge contribution to modern maths. But I'd say it's more likely that you're normal. Sleep is a really necessary thing, and I suggest that if you're getting as little as you say, that you look for triggers...for one thing, no caffeine after 5pm. If you can't think of anything that might be causing your insomnia, or if you get rid of all your stimulants and you still can't sleep, see a doctor.

I have pretty strange sleep habits myself. Every now and then I'll go for a week or more not being able to sleep - and only get two to three hours a night myself. The odd thing is, I have no adverse affects even from prolonged sleep habits like this! In fact, I feel 100% normal during the day even if it's been a couple weeks like that.
It drives my wife nuts though...

I used to work night shifts and that fucked up my sleeping paterns for a long time....
couldn't sleep some nights (days).... Here's a mix you can try (carefully though) two shots of Nyquil and one Nytol (sleeping pill) knocked me out for over 12 hours... had to pee something fierce when I woke up though....

Are you waking up on your own or using an alarm?
A problem for a lot of college students is that they have delayed sleep onset, meaning that the neurochemical changes normally meant to keep people up during the late afternoon and early evening kick in later at night. Hence, they can't fall asleep until early in the morning, but still have to wake up for early classes. The health effects of this are rather severe, and its not safe to drive a car when you're too sleep deprived. |

To TIO:
I am a wrestler and I have been excercising twice a day, so my physical help hasn't been deteriorating. In fact, I've been getting a good deal stronger. I would say my mental health is deteriorating, but that depends on how you measure mental health. I feel happy and calm. I've been writing 10x as much as normal. I've been reading more too. My grades on the other hand, suck to sum it all up in one word. So, maybe I'm wierd or maybe I'm just too stubborn to get my ass in bed. I don't know. |
