Procrastination

I have a 7 page research paper due in 4 hours, and I'm starting now. I'm officially a moron.

Share your procrastination stories so I have something to read while I pretend to write this paper.

ninety09 10-29-2003 09:07 AM

I always wait as much as possible when I have homework to do. I work a lot better under pressure.

PayUp 10-29-2003 10:22 AM

why put it off today when you can wait and put off tomorrow

tikki 10-29-2003 11:05 AM

tikki
Too true.

erion 10-29-2003 11:41 AM

I once wrote a 15 page paper on the linguistic development of Germanic runes, including non-linguistic uses in their respective societies in less than 12 hours. I got a B+. Use Visual aids when you present the paper. It helps an awful freaking lot.

Redlemon 10-29-2003 12:04 PM

Yeah, I have a good story...

... I'll post it later ;).

Sapper 10-29-2003 12:53 PM

Lol :p

Blahman 10-29-2003 02:51 PM

I am the master of procrastination... however, it seems to work out since I work best under pressure. Matter of fact, I'm procrastinating right now.

numist 10-29-2003 02:57 PM

I procrastinate until theres no hope of completing the assignment

then I rationalize that it wasnt that important anyway

*shrugs*

jujueye 10-29-2003 03:32 PM

Well my problem with procr......I'll do this later

mingusfingers 10-29-2003 04:17 PM

Ditto to numist. Almost all homework that I have is put off until I run out of time, then I say to myself that I can't possibly finish it now, so on to more online games.

Nefir 10-29-2003 04:56 PM

Hey, you know what they say... Never wait until tomorrow to do what you can put off indefinitely. :D

Procrastination hasn't really been a problem for me this semester. What really kills me is the fact that I direct all my efforts to that one really hard class, with lots of projects and exams, but neglect everything else. Oh well, at least there's one thing I'm guaranteed to do really well in.

Mr Scorcex 10-29-2003 05:04 PM

Typed a 7 page thesis paper on Macbeth the morning it was due my junior year in hs. I got an A+. My teacher wasn't the most intelligent of people.

maynard0012 10-29-2003 05:25 PM

I'm now avoiding a research paper on leprosy due tomorrow.

bundy 10-29-2003 06:23 PM

rogue49 10-29-2003 06:50 PM

You know I was going to stop procrastinating,

Bowlcut 10-29-2003 06:55 PM

ah its my mantra
i live by it
i will die by it

tangledweb 10-29-2003 07:02 PM

My procrastination story is really weird......

hey, bundy, if you don't mind, I'd love to see that one sometime. (assuming it ever gets done)

Mango 10-29-2003 07:29 PM

I'll type something here later.

In a college history class of mine, the research paper was assigned and given a due date on the second class session. We were given 4 months to read a book and write a 5-7 page review of it. I read my book and wrote the essay exacly 5 days before it was due. I got a B, I was quite pleased.

Jimbob666 10-30-2003 01:18 AM

I finished, for anyone that was concerned. It's now 4 am, and I have about 9 pages left to write for various classes tomorrow.

My best procrastination story occurred sophomore year of college, when I researched and wrote a 15 page term paper that was half my grade for the semester the afternoon it was due (evening class). I got an A, took another class with that prof the next semester and did the same thing.

thejoker130 10-30-2003 07:58 AM

Amateur....how bout a 9 page research paper due within 8 hours of starting it... it goes without saying that I failed

crayzeeredhead 10-31-2003 01:52 PM

okayyyyyyyy ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and ackkkkk I forgot write more when i remember!!

Gun 10-31-2003 02:25 PM

It's physically impossible for me to complete any type of assignment if it is not due within the next 12-24 hours.

It's a disease. But I love it.

WarWagon 10-31-2003 06:49 PM

I've got two books to read by last August.

Semi-Normal 10-31-2003 07:31 PM

I too once started an essay 4 hours before it was due, but it was only a little 1000 worder, and it was only for philosophy. I did 0 research for it (you can pull that off pretty easily in philosophy) and for my bibliography just chose a few random titles from the reading list. I just got it in on time. Got a B- for it. :)

Oh and there was the time I had a mini-essay for high school economics due in the class that came after our lunch break. I did the essay during lunch and got 20/20 for it. It was worth 10% of the year's mark, and I finished that course right on the pass mark. One mark less and I would have failed. :)

theguyondacouch 10-31-2003 07:41 PM

I 'll tell you later...

Fremen 11-01-2003 12:04 AM

It makes me extremely uncomfortable to put things off for later, but I continually do it.
As if I have all the time in the world to finish it.
As if tomorrow is a foregone conclusion.
Maybe I get off on the squirmy sensation I get when something is due and I wait 'til the last possible window of time in which it could possibly be accomplished by. I don't know.
I DO know I don't like to think about it for long.
It depresses me.

I believe I've gotten better at parsing my time, but I know I can do more to help alleviate some of my guilt.

'At's enough for now.

Sunrise 11-01-2003 12:21 AM

I usually leave work til the last minute too. But not that late! I usually end up having fun staying up the night before it's due.

bparker805 11-20-2003 05:00 PM

Got a ten pager due tomorrow... I thought it would be a good idea to start today. But with the TFP, and food, and the phone, and TV, how is a guy supposed to get anything done? My teacher might not be happy with my efforts. I might have to turn in a five pager instead.

arael 11-20-2003 07:08 PM

ya.. i ususally try to write a schedule if i have alot work and follow the schedule. 10:05--- post on TFP

nirol 11-20-2003 07:22 PM

I got depressed just reading all this, BTW, I havent gotten around to getting out of bed yet today.

Haha yes, procrastination is the bane of me sometimes.

shileno 11-20-2003 08:38 PM

i stayed up all nite last nite to write a paper..today i found out that it was not due today.. :(

Phaenx 11-20-2003 08:52 PM

Nah you're not a moron, just lazy. Do what I am, and take something so extremely difficult, that you know if you don't study, or don't completely understand a concept in and out, you'll be fucked to the power of 20.

taliendo 11-20-2003 10:09 PM

During the second quarter of my freshman year of college I had this physics professor who didn't care if you attended class or not. Needless to say, I didn't. I actually missed a midterm in the class because I didn't know about it, from not attending classes. SO, by the time the final exam rolled around I needed an A on it have any hope of passing the class at all. I studied for two days straight, no sleep -- i did not leave my room for any circumstance, food was brought to me etc. The bitch of it was I fell asleep on my couch four hours before the exam. Amazingly I woke up about 30 minutes after the test started, grabbed my shit and jetted as fast as I could to the physics building.

After showing up 45 minutes late to an exam, I was the first one in the class to finish the test (i was always kind of speedy in exams.) AND I got a D+ in the class, not something to be proud of I know, but hey, I passed.
