Err... Indiana (with the minor exceptions, of course) doesn't change from Eastern to Central for 6 months of the year. It looks that way, but what actually happens is Indiana stays in Eastern Standard Time year round. This time zone is defined to be 5 hours behind GMT (and so is Central Daylight Time, but we don't observe daylight savings, so that is obviously not the right time zone). Eastern Daylight Time, on the other hand, is defined to be 4 hours behind GMT.
Personally, I think all the arguments for DST are bullshit. For what it's worth, I lived in Michigan for two decades and never liked changing clocks twice a year. Go Indiana. :) |
Believe it or not...the actual Daylight Savings Time starts with the spring switch and it ends in the fall.
If we stayed at real time, then it would be at the settings during the winter, or what we are right now. Personally, I would prefer that...I've always hated the spring switch. Leave time alone. BTW...while we are at it, can we change back the start of the year to March, the start of spring...it makes more sense. And lets also switch August back to 30 days, since the Emperor Augustus is dead, and alternate from there...it would be more balanced. That way February could have 29 days, and then every four years have a normal 30 days. With all this fixing the past egotistical changes the world will become balanced again, and we can dance in harmony. :) |
rogue, yes. I would prefer a year-round version of what is now called "daylight savings time" to become the permanent version of "standard time".
I do see support for both versions of time here. The substantive proposal would be to eliminate the constant back-and-forth variation in favor of a single "time". Based on your description that would be, to my way of seeing it, to stay on "daylight savings time" all year and eliminate the version of time I'm calling "daylight losing time." |
I dont like daylight savings. I like to get up when the sun is up.
|
if we stayed on daylight savings time, we'd be out of sync with the rest of the world, we have to stay off it if you dont want it
|
Which is funny Art, I prefer the time we are on now.
But to be honest...I don't really care...as long as it's consistent, all year round. |
I don't like this whole setting the time back-and-forth either...
And it sucks big time when you're a software engineer and you've to deal with stupid timestamps... (especially in a business critical software like billing system...) |
All times are GMT -8. The time now is 11:49 AM. |
