Seems like 3 is the magic age.

My earliest memory is my dad's funeral when I was 3. Obviously, this is something that has always stayed with me and it seems that I think about it at random times during the day. Not really sad about it anymore but it still bothers me that I can't remember anything of him but his funeral.

My second birthday party. I got a tricycle and had to wear a red shirt. I know it's weird to remember something that early, but one time we were looking at pictures prior to my parents moving, and I could remember other things from that day that weren't in the picture, like our dog Amanda eating the cake.

If you got shocked by a plug at 7 months... your mom and dad or sisters and brothers probably retold you the story about what you did soooooo many times that you think you remember doing it....but, do you? Or the one about the snoopy snowman, do you really remember building it or do you have pictures of it, know you help build it cause you are in the pictures and think you remember building it?

I guess i am skeptical because I cant remember much. I think my first memory was in kindergarten.

But I know when I was 2 I got about 45 stiches in my head from my cousin hitting me in the head with a big rock. Do I remember this??? NO. I do have the scars and my family has told me about that day quite a few times. I have pics of me in the Hospital, so it would be very easy for me to say I remember this....but, I don't. I wonder if people get what they know happened and what they remember happened confused when they try to think back.
I can't remember where I read it, but some university researchers determined children cannot form long term memories until the corpus callosum (the nerves connecting the two halves of the brain) has formed. The article said this happens around age 2. You can google it if you want more info.

I have two very early memories, I can't decide which came first. One is of me standing in a doorway looking at my brothers and sisters who were sitting in the living room watching tv. I was crying my eyes out because my mom had gone somewhere and I wanted to see her. The other one is of sitting in my maternal grandfather's lap. It's strange, because he died when I was 5 and it's one of the few memories I have of him. In either case I would have been around 3 years old.

I was 3 or 4, just at nursery I assume:

I remember leaving a sit on toy car at the end of our old street and running home and leaving it there.

Very weird memory, but I dont remember anything else.

I remember when I was about 2 or 3 taking a bath with my sister who was 3 or 4 at the time. I pushed against and fell through the bathroom window screen. My sister yelled for mom and she grabbed me as I was skiding on the rough shingled roof. I remember getting scratched up by the shingles like it was yesterday. The only reason I can say what age I was is because we moved away from that house when I was 3.

My first memory is pretty depressing. I was about 2 1/2 and I was at my Grandfathers house. My brother and I were outside playing in the snow aka trying to help him shovel the driveway. We seen him fall down and tried to wake him up because we thought he decided to fall asleep. Turns out he had a heart attack. May he rest in peace.

Two years old. I was watching "The Outer Limits" with my family, and the episode was about a creature that crawled through your TV and into your home. I got up and ran toward our kitchen and ran smack into my 12-year old sister who was coming out of the kitchen. It's never good when you're running forward and the back of your head is the first thing to touch the ground.

My head split open and they took me to the doctor's house, and he sewed up my head in his den. The whole memory is crystal clear, all the way from what my sister was wearing to what the doctor's chair looked like.

Before age 2, maybe closer to 18 months; I have this memory of an old but sturdy man with a full head of gray hair walking with me down the street away from our house, then picking me up and carrying me back. From my memory, I didn't know who he was. I certainly never saw him again.

Told my mom about it a few years ago. She said it was her stepfather; it was the only time he'd come to visit, and he'd died unexpectedly the next day (one hopes, not from lifting me). She'd never mentioned it, because she thought I was too young to remember.

Interesting that what I remember is so clear. I can see his face. I remember that we walked as far as the lumberyard down the street. I remember that he was wearing a long-sleeved flannel-type shirt with a plaid pattern.

I have a few memories of laying in a crib with my dad standing over me talking.

I remember a LOT from when I was 2-3 (and, of course, much after that).

There's things that my mom and grandma tell me about that I did at 1 and 2 that I can recall.

The mind is very strange.

My earliest memory was when I was about 2 1/2. We lived in Texas and my dad was in the Coast Guard. He had to be up and at work very early, while it was still dark. I remember getting out of bed and I was wearing undies and a camisole type thing with pink roses on it. I went down the hallway to the kitchen and got in my dad's lap while he ate breakfast. He was eating oatmeal.

The things I recall weren't told to me. All around the 1 1/2 to 2 yrs mark. I can remember my dad bringing home a bounty bar each for me and my sister. Can also remember taking my new batmobile toy outside and losing the bullets and the figures too i think. Remember the guy from upstairs babysitting my sister and I. They were all in the first flat (apartment) we lived in until I was two.

The first thing I remember was choking on a hot dog when I was 2.

Midlandmadman, let me tell you, I am certain I remember this because there is only really one part of the memory that sticks out and it wasn't really that a very important part of the event. After I started choking my parents picked me up to try to get it out and weren't able to, but mananged to get it so I could breath (sorta) while it was still lodged in my throat. Now for the part I remember vividly, we got into the car to go to the hospital and as soon as we pulled out of the garage I coughed it up, chewed it a bit and swallowed it again. Then we pulled back into the garage, we didn't even get out of the driveway.

The first "memory" that I can recall, that I am absolutely positive is my own and not created by my mind from people telling me what happened is impossible for me to discern. One that might be close to fitting the bill though would be at my old house, playing with a neighbour girl's house in the backyard. I was in a trash can alcove in the fence beside the alley along her house. I think the fence was beige, she was blond, and I don't know why I was in there. Probably between three and five years old. Only reason I can think of a range of ages is because I moved before I was six.

I have a pretty horrible memory normally, unless something triggers a recollection.

I remember laying in my bed when I was 3 or 4. It was late at night and I sat up and saw a black cat sitting at the window sill staring inside my room. I swear it's eyes were glowing a golden yellow. It could have been a reflection, or maybe I my brain made that up. Either way it was the scariest thing for me.

One of the earliest, anyway, was a perfect Oedipian example. My mother asked me who did I wanted to marry when I'd be grown up, and I answered "you".

I was standing in a playpen. My mother was in another room, and my older brother was in the room with me. I remember my brother running to get my mother because I had spoken something intelligible. I don't remember saying anything, but I do remember my mother coming back into the room and my brother being excited. My other "oldest" memory is of being in a stroller at the zoo and seeing the monkeys.

Yeah, mine are actual memories too, because I knew about them before they were brought up in later years.

I often questioned them (since they were at such a young age) growing up, whether or not they were dreams or just something I conjured up on my own, but I assure you they aren't.

For example, I remember always going over this house - friends of my mom and dad. I remember playing in their pool all the time and being in one of those little floatation devices. It came up in casual conversation with my mom one time when I was 18 or 19; she told me how we always used to go over her friend's house (who she worked with) and I loved playing in their pool. I just turned 1 around that time.

As for the crib memories, I can't really validate those except with pictures. I can't exactly ask my dad, "Hey, remember standing over my crib talking to me?" There were pictures of my first room that I hadn't seen till I was 14 or 15, but I've always had the memories. When I saw the pictures, I did remember that room. We moved out of that house well before I turned 1, so that's all I need to know it's real!

One of my earliest memories is a dream I had. And that makes it legit because it wasn't something I could have been told when I was much older. I remember being in my living room at my old house and we were all sitting around waiting for my mom to go to work. Then I heard these really loud crushing footsteps. I tried to hide under a sofa chair. Next thing I know I'm in the basement, and the steps are still coming, and I can see the shadow coming down the stairs, and then I see the massive feet and legs making their way down the stairs... and then I wake up.

I don't remember much, but I still have that silly memory kicking around.

I have three memories from when I was two. I'm not sure which came first but they all occured at a house my family lived in for just about six months, that's how I know how old I was. So in no particular order:
I had a dream that I was in Mr. Rogers fantasy land and I was hanging out with the cat. He told me to look in an empty well, when I did I saw a crab, a shark and a plant. The shark suddenly jumped up the well and latched onto my head, which scared me awake. I ran into my parents room to get some help, as soon as I woke my mom up I realized the shark wasn't on my head anymore but I hadn't quite realized it was just a dream. So I asked my mom if she had taken the shark off my head.
Next one: I was sitting eating a peanutbutter sandwich with my girl friend, Kimberly Smith. My parents were doing yard work.
Last one: I was in my back yard turning over rocks looking for bugs and found a big hairy spider. I picked it up and brought it into the house to ask my mom if I could keep it. She told me to drop it, then she stepped on it, picked it up with a napkin and through it in the trash. I never asked her if I could keep another insect or spider again, though I almost always had at least one, as a pet, for the rest of my childhood.

I was about two swinging in my little swing, and my dog jumped on the swing and for some odd reason I grabbed her by the ears and wouldn't let go until my mom intervened. I guess I was trying to hold on to her so she wouldn't fall off. Needless to say she never did that again...

My first memory is from when I was 3. I woke up from a nap on the living room couch and my mom was steam-cleaning the carpet. Here's the thing that made it stick: I couldn't remember anything. I asked this lady, who turned out to be my mom, a long series of questions like, "Who am I? How old am I? What's my name?," and the like. All in all it was a truly scary experience at the time. Now it's kind of amusing to think that I could just forget who I was at anytime and start over.

I was inside a stroller, and my mother was pushing me around inside a store. Then I blacked out or something, then I was on my living room couch. Very confusing. It's either just small fragments of memories, or it might have been a dream.

Hmmm, my earliest memory i can think of is when I was around 1. I was still living in California (moved away from there when I was 2), and I was dragging around my Huffy Puffy. Then my grandpa called for me, so I went to him, and he said, "Oh, ok, just wanted to find where you were." Not much point to the memory, it really isn't anything significant, so I always wondered why I kept it.

I still remember dreams and nightmares I had from when I was 4 or 5. In fact, one of the characters from a reoccuring nightmare actually made an appearance in one of my dreams a few months ago. This time he wasn't quite as scary though.

I was about 2 1/2-3 with mine....We lived in the mtns in NC and mother had taken me outside while she hung up the laundry on the clothesline and I was playing on the patio...she had to run back into the house to get more clothes pins and by the time she came back out 2 king snakes had crawled onto the patio and I'd picked them up (yes both of them). To this very day I can hear my mother saying "Shannon Faye put those snakes down right this minute young lady" and I did and they slithered away...then she realized that they were SNAKES (talk about a delayed reaction )and totally freaked out and yanked me off of the ground and ran me into the house.....I dont ever remember being outside at that particular house again
