MSN CHAT GOING TO PAY SERVICE
MSN is going to convert to pay to use service in October, 2003. (for chatters and user groups)
This is being done in an attempt to cut down on pervs who target young children in chat rooms etc. (according to MSN news releases) This pay to use service would require payment in order to authenticate who a user is etc etc. This will effect Millions of users here in North America and many more worldwide. What do you think? Let us know, we'd love to hear your opinion. Skippy |

I've seen this article elsewhere and I am amazed at two things;
1:the naivete' of parents who allow their children to chat on the net unsupervised. 2: That any one would actually chat at MSN or Yahoo etc etc etc. I gave yahoo up like 2 years ago and I recently went back for the hell of it and half the chatters are adbots and it still the same "LoL OMFG NIgGa type 2304924 to cyber" crap that made me quit in the first place. Really what is the attraction? IRC > *

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing as Averett, does that apply to Messenger too?
Cause I never get on just plain chat, but I use Messenger like crazy. All the damn time.

do you have a link? I think I'll believe when I get asked for payment, I mean, cyber stalking is everywhere, if they do it, all they are going to do is loose people. A well, what can ya do though, it's not like they don't have enough money or anything

I heard that it was going to be for MSN messenger, and it was going to be because of all the extra people using trillian and other 3rd party stuff taking up thier b/w. I don't think I have a linky to it anymore. Either way I don't use the Chat in it, never have, never will, won't drop a penny for it... though I might fling a penny into it..

newspapers over here specifically spoke of the MSN Chat which was getting a make-over. So msn messenger would be left alone. It was a way of getting more people off of the Chat and into a messenger.
They can't just go charging for something other popular services offer for free.

Well, if it applies to Messenger as well, I'll just use Trillian. I have it now, but I prefer how Messenger looks.
I used to be addicted to chat rooms. Thank God I got away from that mess...

I'm still confused as to what is getting converted to a pay system. What the hell is the difference between MSN chat and MSN messenger? So many questions! Either way, I don't really think it will help things.

Their not serious about turning MSN Messenger into a pay service???
They have millions of millions of people who will leave for the free services... like aim, icq blablabla --> and so on.... If their lucky perhaps 20 000 people will stay... I know they are silly, but come on!??!

It's funny how everyone is clueless about what this entails, and that no links stating what exactly is going on with MSN have been posted.
http://join.msn.com/?page=features/e...from_chat_page Only MSN Chat is going to a pay service. It will be $19.95 per year and includes 30mb of storage space. This does not effect MSN Messenger. People need to stop listening to rumors and search for the facts. And don't believe anything unless you hear it from the horses mouth. |

sheesh... What part of "this has to do with MSN Chat" don't you people understand? one more time: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MSN MESSENGER. YOU CAN CONTINUE TO USE MSN MESSENGER SERVICE FREE OF CHARGE. THE ONLY PART THAT IS GOING TO A PAY SERVICE ARE THE CHAT ROOMS, AND YOU GET 40 MB* STORAGE SPACE WITH YOUR PAYMENT. Ok, is that clear now? Or are you people only reading the first paragraph and forgetting what the rest of this thread has to say? /rant over. Every time I look at their website, they change the amount of storage space you will receive. The first time I looked, they said 30mb, now it says 40mb. I wish they would make up their minds. |

While this won't impact me personally, I think that this is actually an attempt by Microsoft to be more responsible. While a move like this may kill their chat, it will save a lot of potential bad press which would reflect badly on the parent company.
All of the pedophiles and pervs are just going to move elsewhere anyways, but it lets them cover their asses. |
