What do you like best about your job?

I did a search and didn't see anything on this subject. I may have missed it. I apologize if that's the case.

What is it that you like about your job? What is good about it? Maybe you have a boring factory job but at least you've got good buddies there that you can rag on the job with. Or maybe it's your dream job. Just wondering what makes us all get up in the morning and go to the same old job every day - besides the fact that you need the money.

Of course ya gotta be able to rag on the job too. What's the worst thing about it too? What would you change if you could?

Here's my offer. I work at home running a home day care. Sometimes the kids get so nuts that I wish I didn't. Like right now, the two yr old is having a tantrum and I put her in her crib till she calmed down or went to sleep. She's got a great set of lungs and even all the way from the bedroom to the livingroom I can hear her loudly.

The things I like best about it is
#1. I love kids. Always have enjoyed working with them and got an Elementary Education degree because of it.
#2. I get to be home with my 3 yr old daughter and watch her change every day.
#3. I've become a surrogate mom to the kids. Three of them call me Moma even.

There ya go. What do you all say?

Just out of curiosity, what's the mark up? How much do you normally save on a big ticket item? Maybe I'll get a job there!

I'm a telecommuting consultant in the health insurance IT industry. Best thing I like about my job?!

1: Working from home 24/7
2: Naming my own hours
3: My paycheck
4: Did I mention working from home? Especially nice in the winter when I get to watch cars sliding down the road while I'm in my robe and bunny slippers, sipping a cup of coffee.

I'd have to say the people I work with.

We all get along great. The boss knows your name and says hello to you as you pass in the hall. As a whole, we flirt a lot and no one gets their panties in a bunch about it. I could use more money, but then, who couldn't?

My job is cleaning house, doing dishes, and doing Jinya.

Uh, the parts I don't like are cleaning house and doing dishes, for those of you that might be confused.

Best part of the job, aside from doing Jinya, is that we go to Rocky Horror every other Saturday night. It's fun.

Hubby and my brother used to work there and the big ticket items don't have as muh markup. In fact the computers have almost no markup. It's the smaller stuff that gets the markup. The accessories and cords are way more. I just got a cable for my computers DVD drive for $2.50 at the local Radio Shack. Best Buy was charging about $15. I think the employee discount is wholesale plus 10%. I can't quite remember.

You can't usually get a full time position unless you make management. Otherwise you have to work less than 30 hours because they only offer a certain number of benefit packages. Their hours suck though if you work Merch Team. They have to work till Midnight most Saturday nights to set up everything according to the prices in the flyer that comes out in the Sunday papers. Hubby worked at two different stores and this was the same in both places. If you want a better job as far as hours pick Loss Prevention. You'll still have to work at least half your weekends but not as late Sat nights.

I work for a TV show, so:

1 - Different every day. Each show has it's own needs.
2 - Fastpaced. TV producers want things NOW, so you have to be on alert at all times.
3 - Interesting people. Talk shows see celebrities on a daily basis. I get paid to see people sing/play music that other people dish out big bucks for.
4 - Good pay. And since I'm hourly, I benefit from time and a half, double time, and short turn around rules. A heavy taping week is big bank.
5 - The hours. A normal taping day is 7-3, which means I can come home and see my kid and wife before dinner time.

I write computer software and design web sites. Biggest plus: I get to work from home, set my own hours and drink beer while working. Biggest minus: I get to work from home, so I rarely meet new people, and I get to set my own hours, which means I have to be really motivated to work all the time. If it weren't for my college classes I'd never get out of the house.

I do fraud investigation for an insurance company. I love the fact that my job is basically outsmarting people attempting to rip off my company. Its like being a cop and being promoted straight to detective, without having to spend the first half of my life writing people tickets for jay-walking and speeding.
My job sucks becuase there is no one in my office worth having that sex on the desk-porno experience with Im also 15 years junior to anyone I work with

Working at Best Buy rocks. Been there many times as an employee. Computer stuff you don't save much on. Car audio and home audio you do. Accessories you save a crapload on.

Anyways, my job. M-F, 8-5, no weekends, I work around cars, and good people. Downside...it's not a $50,000/yr job.

Well, I work for a pharmaceutical company.

Downsides:

Everyone here thinks they know everything (yet surprisingly they have no concept of what drives business)

They dismiss everything that goes even slightly against their long-held beliefs.

There is this underlying BS quotient. The company (and most employees) believe they are out to help the patient while in the same meeting they will agree to boost the price of a drug since it's now gone generic. This way they can get as much money as possible from the customers who are either the most loyal to our product or who absolutely require the name brand drug.

Sales blames marketing and marketing blames sales and no one is ever held accountable.

The pharma industry seems to think they are the most punished and most regulated industry in the world. They think they face challenges that no other industry does. Of course they're wrong as every industry faces regulations, lawsuits, business challenges, etc. But since the vast majority of the people in this industry have only worked in this industry they have no clue about anything else.

The Positives:
They pay me pretty well.

Decent amount of vacation time (3 weeks plus we more or less get the week between Xmas and New Years off)

There are some great people here who I enjoy talking to (or at least I did before I got transferred to a new building)

Still a student, so I really don't have a steady job, but...

Job #1: Best Buy. I think I really developed a good "people-person" facade. Necessary for some things in life, so I'm glad I learned it young.

Job #2: Mortgage Company. I learned enough about assets/liabilities, interest rates, credit, and the peripherals of financing to sleep during my accounting courses.

Job #3: Construction. This was last year, and since then, I've imbibed copious amounts of fermented beverages, but at one point, I was quite built. I also learned enough about simple framing to help my mom build a really nice deck. That was pretty satisfying.

Job #4: A/V tech. I work at a building on campus, setting up lighting equpiment, projection devices, computers, teles, that sort of thing. Learning a bit about satellite speakers, mixers, etc.

Negatives:
In general, I'm a rather lazy individual. I subscribe to the belief that we're only here for a while, so why work during the short time we have? I'd rather be drinking with my buddies and such.
