Youths accused of veggie-hurling spree

FAIRHAVEN -- Using stolen vegetables as missiles launched from a car, a group of youths caused havoc in the streets of Fairhaven on Sunday night, seriously injuring a person hit in the face, police said.
Police said the four youths drove around in a gray Pontiac Grand AM on Sunday around 9:30 p.m. throwing vegetables -- allegedly stolen from a Mattapoisett fruit stand -- out of the windows.
The suspects damaged parked vehicles, street signs and private property all over Fairhaven, police said.
A 24-year-old man was injured when he was hit in the face with what was believed to be a large onion.
Other witnesses told police they were talking and drinking coffee at the Honey Dew Donuts parking lot on Huttleston Avenue when the Pontiac drove by and the youths threw items at them.
Police later caught up with the suspects behind the Nice and Clean car wash on Huttleston Avenue. They were brought to the Fairhaven police station for questioning, police said.
They are expected to appear in New Bedford District Court today for arraignment, police said.
Fairhaven police, assisted in the investigation by Mattapoisett police, identified the suspects as Robert Pittsley, 17, of 416 Mill St., Wareham; Richard Sylvia, 18, 41 Spring St., and Derek Horseman, 17, of 31 Pine Hill Road, both of Marion; and Nathan Mitchell, 17, of 3 Antassawamock Road, Mattapoisett.
Police identified Mr. Horseman as the driver.
Police say they will charge the youths with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property over $250, using a motor vehicle to commit a felony, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
Fairhaven police and other area departments are looking at the possibility that the suspects might have been involved in other incidents of vandalism during the summer, police said.
Witnesses to the crime spree can contact Sgt. Michael Botelho of the Fairhaven police at (508) 997-7421. JOAO FERREIRA The Standard-Times

well, thats an interesting story.
typical of a local newspaper.
a naughty gang of teenagers, throwing veggies at cars...
sounds a lot like my neighbourhood and countless others.
so, if anyone actually knows these guys mentioned, could you please tell their parents so they can be grounded.
