More Important_Dream...or...Reality?
 

I am a Guy with a dilema...like so many other people.
I dont know whether to follow my heart...or follow the trodden path of reality.
I have an opportunity to do what I have always dreamed of...an awsome opportunity...to play in a really good rock and roll band.
I left this band long ago...because of many outside distractions...
"mom is very sick"..."get a career"..."you need to be there for your family when things get hard"..."you need to start a family of your own"...I have always bent over backwards for everybody I know, and never got to complete my fanatic journey. I went to school...now I am in debt up to my eyeballs...can't find a decent job...depressed...lonely...regreting the day I left the life I wanted.
I am asking you guys to help me with my problem...God hasn't given me any straight answers at all...? What do you think I should do...More than that...What should people do in these times of uncertainty...follow the heart...or follow the harsh reality we all are slaves too? Faith is blind...Hope is risky...Im tired of trashing my mind...on beer and Whiskey...

Unless Mom has No one else to look after her...dude, you NEED to be playing music - especially if your any good at all. Then 20 years from now when you're older and bored at least you'll have all those great memories. And Man, the time flies by faster than you care to know.

It's your duty. Play your music and Screw reality.

Iagree - unless ou are cutting out on responsibilites, go for the music.

Man, I'm going to cut it for you straight. Forget about music and forget about working. Find the point between the two. THERE HAS TO BE A MEDIUM. Something that you can do that is working and also musically inclined.

But that's my answer.

My suggestion is to be realistic - no matter what you do.

I must say that I am so grateful for Hunnychile and galaxy girl for makin me feel like i can be who i want to be, and i also must thank Astrocloud and ARTelevision for helping me to realize that there must be some kind of a compromise...I truly appreciate you.

Follow your dream, but, don't think that the rock and roll band will be easy guarenteed money. for every one band that does succeed, fifty, even a hundred fail.

The best career is one in which you are doing what you love and making money at it! Good luck.

there are plenty of people out there chasing a dream... but they also have to do the thing that every human has to do...

keep a roof over their heads and eat food.

some people work a day job and then act/play in the evenings or vice versa. you aren't the first to have this question, but like astrocloud said, there's a compromise to be found.

When I was young I watched some people play in a garage band, I watched two of those people become major rock stars and still are helping shape today's current music. the third guy, he just didn't have the same amount of talent as the other two... and he's still trying, struggling, but he has a day job.

Don't dream it,
Be it.

Just understand all the consequences, be realistic
and make sure the bills are paid.

There ARE ways to to this, and still be "you".
It just might take a bit more effort & time.

I'm kinda in the same position as you, albeit probably a bit younger. I've come to the conclusion that there are billions of people on this earth and unless you reach a big portion of them no one will care what you do. What's the harm if you try to become a musician? There are so many people who dick out of their dreams because they are afraid, and hell they deserve to fail. People don't wan't to idolize to someone just like themselves they want to look up to those who risked everything. And what is everything anyway? Everything is all the things everyone else has already had. Living life safe is old hat, 90% of everyone you know played it safe, so fuck it try something else. If our lives are so meaningless then whats the difference if you try and fail, or if you don't try and fail. I'd starve and die on the streets if that's what putting all your trust in your dreams and then failing means.
