I work in the internet porn industry. Los Angeles is the home of this industry. If strippers cant earn tips through lap dances, then they are going to look to the industry for money. That could mean higher quality porn in the future. Hah! Megalomaniac politicians have no idea what they are doing.

That's the order that went out to patrons of strip clubs on Tuesday when Los Angeles City Council passed a measure requiring dancers to stay at least 6 feet away from customers, thus ending lap dancing in the city.

The ordinance, passed unanimously despite stiff opposition from strippers and adult club owners who fear for their livelihood, banned lap dancing and any other kind of bodily contact between dancers and customers in strip clubs, bikini bars and adult bookstores.

The ban follows rising complaints by people living near adult cabaret clubs about prostitution, drug use, excessive noise and streets littered with condoms.

But club owners and dancers, who make most of their income from cash tucked into their G-strings, have said the ban will kill the thriving business which employs thousands of people.

The new law, which must be signed by Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn before going into effect, requires state-licensed security guards to be on duty at all times. Violators face up to six months in jail and as much as $2,500 in fines.

Roger Diamond, a lawyer representing about 20 Los Angeles strip club owners, had opposed the measure, arguing that a city body cannot regulate what goes on inside adult clubs.

But on Tuesday he said the clubs would "rather work with the city. We're not here to be bad neighbors," Diamond said.

The law itself is a load of shit. I think the ignorance displayed by the lawmakers is blaringly evident.

having grown up in LA with LV so close... i hated going to strip clubs in LA. You can't even put the $$ in her g string... you gotta put it down in front of you and then she comes over and picks it up. WTF is that crap??? LA is so afraid of prositution they don't even realize that it happens day in day out hour after hour...

I don't think it will increase th quality of porn, IMHO they will just travel where the $$$ are... and obviously it's outside of LA.

NYC you can go to places where not only can you get a lapdance that lasts for 20 minutes for $20, but you can stick your finger in it if you so choose.

Toledo has done something similar, Larry Flint is involved now, and there is an injunction on the law. What Toledo did was make it so the dancer has to be 3 feet away, and on a 6 inch stage in front of the customer. I thought only the midwest was fucked up like that, guess not.

So are customers going to now have to throw money at the strippers from more than 6 feet away? What if there are 2 strippers, and the money lands between them? What if the strippers start fighting over the money? A stripper could very easily be killed.

Maybe that is the politicians' TRUE intention.

These are the same lawmakers that say it is illegal to gamble on sports (except in Nevada and New Jersey). Everyone does it, and they are trying to regulate it. This will just have the result of pushing the action into another jurisdiction that will be more than happy to make tax dollars off of high dollar businesses.

These lawmakers were once youthful men (and women), who chased snatch, grabbed at boobies, had lap dances, had orgies and sex parties, etc.....but when they get married and serious about their "influence" on their surrounding environment, all the sudden it is wrong for others to enjoy the same pleasures I am sure they once had. Politicians will do anything to get fucking votes, even if it is going against something they would rather not see go away in the first place.

What Toledo did was make it so the dancer has to be 3 feet away, and on a 6 inch stage in front of the customer. I thought only the midwest was fucked up like that, guess not.
